Trouble TTC

What to expect?? Hysterscopy/laparoscopy

Has anyone had either of these two procedures? From what I've gathered they are generally performed together. Anyone have any insight? Thanks in advance

Re: What to expect?? Hysterscopy/laparoscopy

  • Everyone's recovery depends on what they find/remove and where they do most of their work.  Generally speaking the lap is more invasive.  I didn't have too much bleeding from the hyst, but they mostly removed endo from the lap.  Being nervous beforehand is normal, but there isn't much to worry about.

Some advice for after you're done...
    • I prepped my resting area (my bed) before hand and got everything within reach that I'd need (other than food or drinks DH would bring me).  I couldn't do a lot of walking for about 24 hrs after, and I'm glad I didn't have to worry about where things like my movies, snacks, laptop, etc. were.
    • Wear very loose clothing b/c you don't want anything tight around your midsection when you head home.
    • Bring a pillow to put on your lap for the ride home.  It helps with any bumps on the road and keeps the seatbelt from hurting.
    • Plan on dresses and loose outfits for a couple of days.  Some have more swelling than others...I couldn't wear jeans for 2 weeks.
    • Have a plan of action for when you are constipated.  Anesthesia makes people constipated, so whether you prefer fiber, tea, whatever - you'll need it!
    Good luck!

And if someone can't be with you too much the days after, while you are recovering, it's not the end of the world...but it took me a while before I could reach high/low objects or get out of my chair easily.  And I couldn't drive until around day 3.  So it was nice to have someone with me for a few days, even if I already could slowly walk around on my own.

  • @Rcvb22‌ and @gsancho‌ - thanks for the info!!! how Long did you take off of work after the surgery?
  • If I remember correctly, I think mine was on a Tuesday and I took Wednesday off, then worked from home Thursday and Friday.  I still didn't feel comfortable driving Friday, even though I felt better.  Some people go to work sooner, but I just didn't.  Even when I went back to work Monday, I proudly wore pajama pants - I swear I was swollen forever!

  • Everything that @gsancho said! I took two weeks off of work at the suggestion of my RE. I used those whole two weeks. You might feel ok after a few days, but still take it easy. I felt good and started cleaning the house, big mistake. I paid for it without a doubt. Even after two weeks I still felt uncomfy at work for a few more days.
