Email address for LO?

I was lurking another board and had seen 2 different posts on this topic. Apparently people are setting up email addresses for their LO's to use in the future to  A) make sure they have an email address with their name and/or to send letters, photos, etc... to them throughout the years and once they reach a certain age they will hand over the password. Some are giving the addresses to family members too so they can send letters and photos.

How do you feel about this? Have you done it or will you do it?

I like the idea but at the same time I'm thinking there's no way email will even be around in 18 or so years so why bother?

I have a friend who did this a while ago and it was for writing to the baby through its life...he stopped after a few months and only remembered like once a year and eventually not at all.

I think it is a cute idea but not really something I would do.

I don't have room in my brain to keep up with it. I barely can handle doing a baby book!

I think it's a cool idea, but I would probably do the same thing as @MrMrsandBaby 's friend and completely forget to do it after a while.  I can just see myself being too busy and putting it off over and over.  I'd rather take a lot of pictures and throw albums together to keep track of memories.

I think it's a cool idea, but I would be worried about something happening to it. We did a baby book for my daughter. I would rather make photo albums and scrapbooks for her to keep.

I think it's kind of weird. Baby booking it over here. Even that I am not always good at!

@lauren1184 and @roseypants- I'm with you...I have 100s of photo albums from when I was younger so I'm thinking that is the best route to go.

I think I remember there was an adorable Google/Gmail commercial where the dad did this...still, I think I wouldn't do it.

Dh actually did this for DS. Since we live out of state from most of our family, he cc's DS's email on all the photos and videos he sends out. He also forwards all the responses we get to it. I like it, eventually DS will too.

I love the idea.

I started a family blog when we found out we were pregnant. So that is something to look back at. But it would be nice to send her things.

Also, crucial to reserve an email address....as DH'a family is huge and growing, I don't want her address to get stolen.
