Has anyone here done Capturing Kids Hearts? I wanna know if it really works.

I have not. Looking at their program "description", seems to me they're using a lot of buzz words yet do not define what is done. Just askes a collegue who I seem to recall having done some research on empathy programs ... will let you know if she's aware of it.

I have heard of it (one of my principals was doing a book study) but we didn't implement it.  One VP really believed in it, though, and she was a great admin, so who knows?

I haven't heard of this, but just looking at it, it reminds me of other things I've studied and successfully put into practice, like "Love and Logic" and some of Harry Wong's philosophies.

Sorry to threadjack but @LadyXaverian‌, can you make some other recommendations and/or tell me more about Harry Wong?

I'm assuming that's really his name but my inner 9-year-old is holding back a giggle.

@LC122 lol. Yes, it's his real name. I don't think I have any other recommendations, but this book is a really easy read.

It's not just for brand new teachers, either. It helps you get your classroom set up at the beginning of the year (procedures etc...) to set yourself and your students up for success. I go back and reference it every year, and I'm going into my 13th year. There is a DVD series that goes with it. I saw him speak at a teacher conference a few years back as well. He's very engaging.

Oh, another one who has some books and videos who I've found inspiring is Ron Clark. I'm sure you know who he is since there was a movie made about him.

Harry (& Helen is is wife if recall) Wong's book is great. Was required reading in my credential program. Checked in with another teacher, she heard of the CKH's program. Said works well in areas where parents are not able to provide a lot of stability. The teacher does insead. She also said it is the opposite of the teacher led direct instruction model.

Harry Wong books come highly recommended by my alt cert place.

CKH seems a lot like pretty much any other customer service or empathy program I have participated in, with its own little catch phrases/questions. I had serious discipline issues this past year and know what all I screwed up, and am kinda nervous about next year even though I know what not to do. Consistency is one of my issues at school and home, I am getting better at home though at least I cant get fired as a mom.
