Pubic Bone Pain. Help!

I have been having terrible pubic bone pain!!! I dread going to sleep even when I am extremely tired because I know I will have to get up and have to deal with the worst pain of my life. I can't find any comfortable sleeping positions even with a million pillows. I have to get out of bed to pee and I'm almost in tears because rolling out of bed is so painful. I can't sit for to long (15minutes max) I can't stand for to long because my legs and pubic bone begin to hurt as well. I can't sleep or even bare the thought of waking up. I am 29weeks along and this is my second child. The doctor says it is normal but, this can't be. There is to much pain and I can't deal with it for another 11weeks. Please help! Any suggestions on how to sleep or relieve pain on my pubic bone, they would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Sincerely, 29w and in pain. :(:(

Sorry to hear you are in pain, too!  I've been having the same pain off and on since I found out I was PG.  I never had this pain with DS.  I have noticed that the intensity is increased by activity - but it's still annoying and no fun!  Hopefully, someone will have some relief tips!
  • I have been having very similar pain to the point that walking was difficult, a maternity support belt may help, I ordered online so I'm just waiting on it to arrive at my house.
  • I have TERRIBLE pubic pain during the night.. especially when I have to roll over or get up to pee. I've just been dealing with it as i'm due in 3 weeks.. started about a week and a half ago. It feels like someone hit me with a baseball bat down there! I've tried all pillows and different positions, unfortunately nothing seems to work. Hope you can find some relief!

  • This is my first pregnancy and have suffered from this pelvic pain as well. I have also told my doctors and they say it's normal. I have tried everything, pillow between the legs, ect. It hurts more for me when I'm walking and getting up. Taking a warm bath helps some, try taking a bath before you go to bed it might help your body relax more. On days when the pain becomes unbearable I have to resort to taking a Tylenol. I hope you find relief because I myself am still looking as well.
  • Thank you for the reply! I hope I can find some relief too! if I do, I will let you know (:
  • I was going to post something similar to this but I can't figure out how to post a new thread with my phone and I'm in too much pain to walk to the computer!!
I'm so glad you posted this :)
The pain I'm having is severe, but only when I walk. And by walk I mean from my bed to the bathroom. I'm even using a walker to get around bc it's so bad! My doctor said yesterday that it's normal and basically that if it hurts to walk, don't walk! This can't be right, though. I'm 31 weeks and there's NO WAY I can go through with this for 9 more weeks!! :(

  • I know the pain you speak of. It's not fun. :( Try sitting on an exercise ball. May relieve some of the pressure.

  • If you can afford t get one of those mattress toppers.  I got one from Costco.  Best money Ive ever spent.  Of course EVERYONE wants to curl up in my bed now but whatever..
  • I've been having the same problem but not as extreme. I've been wanting ways to help the pain. It's always worse in the morning.
  • I had this for all of my 2nd trimester and into the 3rd, but it's been replaced by sciatica now. Internet research suggested that the pain is caused by the stretching of the connective tissue that holds the two halves of your pubic bone together in the center. It helps to avoid moving in a way that puts pressure on that region, such as lifting one foot. Here are things that helped me:

    - Embrace the waddle. You'll look silly, but leaning back and taking short, shuffling steps really helps.
    - When climbing into a car, sit down before putting either foot in. This takes a huge amount of pressure off your pubic bone. Seriously, it's crazy what a difference it makes.
    - Always sit down to take pants off/put them on.
    - When going up or down stairs, don't alternate them like you usually would. Step up and then bring your other foot to the same step.

Sorry, I know these are a pain in the ass, but if you do them consistently (and similar things involving avoiding uneven pelvic pressure) it helps over time. Good luck!

Google Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction and see if that's that pain you feel. I had SPD with my last baby and it was very painful! Good luck and hope you find some relief

Get to a chiropractor that has training in pregnancy related issues like SI joint pain & Pubic symphosis pain. I was in tears because the pain was so bad and I can't tell you how much the chiro has helped.

Also be sure to keep a pillow between your knees & ankles when you sleep, and keep your knees together when turning over (vs swinging them open to flop over). The chiro will have other helpful tips too. GL!

  • I had this too from about week 29-31, then it went away! So there may be hope!

You can take tylenol to help with the pain, and my doc said that even though it is painful, staying active will help aleviate the worst of it.

  • This is a pain I feel every night and like prior posts when I have to get out of bed and get up to go pee it is the absolute worst.  If you can try propping yourself up more into a sitting position surrounded by pillows for sleep.  This has helped me some and rocking on the ball before bed also helps to take some of the pressure off my pelvis.  I've had it since about week 32.  Just keep focused on that little person you will be holding eventually.  I hope it gets better!

  • I've had this since 29 weeks and I'm now 37 weeks!  Some things that my midwife suggested are as follows:

-being in the pool/water takes pressure off of your pelvic bones

-warm shower before bed relaxes muscles

-keep legs together when getting out of bed (don't swing one leg over the edge)

-can see a physical therapist or chiropractor

    Good luck!!!
  • I'm 33 and a half weeks along and have been having that off n on since 28 weeks. From my understanding, its your pubic bones separating preparing for birth....its your body's way of getting ready for labor. It can also be worse if baby is laying on a nerve. But mine is bad if I try to open my legs, roll over at night in bed or just even try to get out of bed....I dread getting out of bed in the mornings cause I know how its gonna feel. And getting up 50 times to pee at night, ugh....miserable! Drs say try cold and hot compresses, stretching or yoga (if you can bear it). I hear you on using pillows in bed...I tried putting one between my knees but doesn't help. I also read maybe trying a belly band to remove some of that weight off your pelvic/pubic area. I feel for you cause its terrible. I never had this with my first pregnancy. So I hope to find some relief and I hope you do too....I'd tell your OB how much pain you're experiencing. If its bringing you to tears, then maybe they can help you out! Good luck hunny and congrats!
  • Ive had this pain since I was only like 16 weeks along. My dr said it started really early for me, but that it was nothing to worry about, just one of those pains we have to go thru in pregnancy. Im 31 weeks now and it has gotten worse, when I move in bed and get up out of bed it hurts for awhile...move my legs up to high (getting dressed) and I cant push anything out of my way with my legs. also after a long day it hurts to walk. I't helps me to lay down on my side with a pillow between my legs.
  • I will tell you of it's spd it gets worse!! Much worse and is sooner and worse with each pregnancy

Maternity belt during the day, Tylenol and a hot bath at bed
  • My midwife told me I could take Tylenol or a hot bath.
  • I was told it's arthritis in the pubic bone. I've had it most of my pregnancy. I haven't been able to find any relief. I'm 38w 6d, I can barely move my legs at all now because of the pain. Good luck.
  • Same thing here. My OB recommended a maternity support belt. Not sure it's helping, but I've only been using it for a few days.
  • I have the same kind of pain, from what you are describing.

I sit on an exercise ball for about 20 minutes before bed and rotate my hips in circles while on the ball. This loosens the muscles and the ligament that runs across the bottom of your pelvic area, which gets stretched as your belly gets bigger and puts more weight on it.

It SERIOUSLY is saving my sanity. I also rest my chest on the ball, knees on the ground, and arch my back up and then back down.

    Could be worth a try
