First midwifery appt today!

We met with the midwife today that we think we will use! She really encouraged me to continue my firefighting as long as I feel well ( by end of the season will be time for me to stop anyways) She also told me I can just continue my running and exercise and basically everything I wanted to hear !! We took a listen to the heartbeat and she found it pretty quickly and was amazed at how strong it was !!! Guess we have a healthy little Incredible Hulk in there : )
What peace of mind to know baby is healthy and now I may even begin to get excited !!!!!!!

Re: First midwifery appt today!

  • I am planning on doing a home birth! I did my sons at home 10 years ago and it was an amazing experience ( water birth) How about you?
  • We are also going with a group of Midwives.  We have found their care to be amazing. Although we are not doing a homebirth (but more power to those who do!!!), we are excited to be on the low intervention side of things!  We wanted a water birth, but the hospital just handed down a cease order for water births that I am really mad about.  They say they need more "research" that it is safe.  Maybe by December they will have gotten with the times... but we will see.  We can still labor in the tub, until it is time to push.

I wanted to continue running throughout my pregnancy, but was so sick the first tri that it was impossible... but more than the sickness, I couldn't get over my sensitive nips...  It was like a constant purple nurple.  It is weird because having run two half marathons, I never had any nipple sensitivity issues in the past.  I have tried everything... and nothing seems to work.  Now I am doing a 2 minute jog, 2 minute walk regimen which seems to give everything a chance to work itself out.  Hope you can keep it up!

Glad to hear your little hulk is hulking away in there!

  • @ Doohdah...I was feeling so yucky until last week that I've really been doing more the two minute walk jog myself...I guess it's better than none at all. I just get bummed about loosing all the momentum I've gained but I suppose being on fires all summer and hiking literally all day should help me maintain . I'm sorry to hear about the hospital policy ! It seems to be ever changing!
  • Krystal- I am fortunate to be covered in OR for home birth but the midwife also has to be a regular doctor as well. I am so greatful I cannot even express!! I wouldn't have dreamed to have any home birth coverage years ago!!!
