Trouble TTC

IUI only every other month with injectables?

I just called my doctor with the start of my period after a failed IUI last month and they told me this would be a rest cycle and when doing injectables, they only do every other month. I have never heard of this. I asked why and they said they do it as to not over stimulate. I'm pretty upset. Of course I don't want to wait. What do you guys think? What does your RE do?

Re: IUI only every other month with injectables?

  • I was able to cycle every month when I used injects. My RE never mentioned a rest period. If anything, with each successive cycle I needed more meds to respond.

We've been working on baby #1 since July 2013 using Open ID donor sperm.  8 IUI attempts with 5 actual IUIs and one chemical pregnancy.  We have one fresh IVF cycle under our belts as well as a FET.  I have endometriosis and a uterine septum that was corrected via surgery in November 2013.

11/14/14 -  Second HSG shows that tubes are still clear and ute is looking good.

12/6/14 - Started BCPs in prep for IVF #2

12/22/14 - Saline u/s and endometrial scratch (All was clear and OUCH!)

    1/2/15 - Began stimming for IVF #2

  • Every RE is different.  Are they having you take BCPs?  When doing injects, mine always does BCP for a few weeks first, so in a sense it would be about every other month.  How did you respond on this last cycle?

  • That's what I thought. I think it may be time to look for another RE. This one is over two hours away anyway.

  • First cycle I did clomid and had a cyst. So nothing that month. The next, in June, I did Femara and Follistim. I had 2 eggs ready on my left and nothing on my right. They didn't tell me how big. I thought everything was great it just didn't work.

  • My RE does not do this either. If I don't have a cyst, I would want to be able to cycle. Even though they obviously think that's best, most places will let you cycle every month, so I would leave.
    **siggy warning**  **everyone welcome**

  • This wasn't a plan specifically for me. Its just "what they do'. I hate one size fits all treatment. I'm 34 and I would like to get this going. If I were younger maybe I would be a little more patient.
