October 2014 Moms

So much for spacing out the changes for DD. Also, AWing my weekend purchases and my DD.

DD had to change day cares and switch to a big girl bed before her baby brother gets here.  Plus we're converting our dining room to a nursery for him, so I was a little concerned about DD adapting to all the changes.  I was hoping to have her switched to her big girl bed in May, starting new day care in July, slowly making the nursery changes over the whole pregnancy, and then baby brother getting here in late-Sept/early-Oct.

Instead, everything is happening at once (except baby brother's arrival, obviously).  She started new day care today (and was a complete champ at drop off!), we bought her big girl bed on Saturday, and it gets delivered in 2 weeks.  We also bought new living room furniture to be delivered in 2 or 3 weeks (depending on when I can get rid of the old stuff), and we put up new curtains in the living room last night.  The furniture that's currently in the "nursery" will have to get moved this weekend to make room for the crib and rocking chair to go in there the following weekend when the big girl bed arrives.  So, it looks like everything is happening in July.  Still unsure about decorating the nursery, though . . .

We talk to DD about all the changes all the time, and so far her reaction to everything has just been to be really stoked.  She could not wait to get to new day care this morning.  She's in the transitional pre-school room (for about-to-be 3 year olds before they start with the regular pre-school at 3), so we called it big-girl school, and hyped up the fact that she is going to pre-school now, and she was really excited.  We're counting down every night how many more nights she's sleeping in her crib until her big girl bed gets here, so she's ready and on-board for that change too.  She picked out her big-girl sheets over the weekend, too.

Finally, I'm in love with my new couch.  I can't wait for it to be delivered.

  • That's great that your DD is being a "champ" through all of the changes! Congrats on all of the new furniture! You'll have to share pics once it arrives!

  • Some kids are really good with change, sounds like she is one of them.  I think making her part of the process (picking out her bedding etc) helps too.  Isn't it great when everything just works out?!

  • So exciting!  We transitioned DS to his "big boy" bed on Thursday.  We did it after nap but well before bedtime and gave him time to get his excitement out about it.  I was so worried we'd screw up his sleeping habits but he has been sleeping great every night so far and still waits for us to come get him in the mornings.  I think talking about it often like you're doing with her will make all the difference!  Good luck!

I'm glad to hear that the switch has gone well for you guys!  I have no idea what time of day her new bed will get delivered and everything, so her nap might get a little messed up that day (I hadn't even thought of that!), but I hope the switch goes as well for us as it sounds like it has for you!

  • We put our daughter in her big girl room about a month or two ago from the nursery.   She likes her big girl room and sleeps well in it.  BUT, lately she has been talking about her crib, and her high chair, and she wants to go into the nursery.  I think things may be starting to sink in about the new little brother/sister.

  • We switched DS2 to a toddler bed a few weeks ago (he's 18 months now), and he is adapting well, too. Next will be moving him in with DS1...I'm nervous!
I think this is still early enough for your DD to adjust before baby brother arrives!
