Swimmers Ear Drops

Anyone know if you can reuse Ciprodex for swimmers ear?
DD had it a few months ago and the bottle was a stinkin' $50.  I saved it aside after she did the course of them, and have a TON left.
She woke complaining of ear pain today (ughhhhh).  I'm NOT doing the drops w/o taking her in, FYI.. just asking (if she's diagnosed at some point, I'm waiting it out for now) I can reuse those instead of plopping another $50 bucks towards a new bottle?

I could ask her doctor, but he never ever likes us to reuse things, even if it would be like 99% fine.
Thanks!

Re: Swimmers Ear Drops

  • Thanks :)

It's hard for me to know the difference between ear infection and swimmers ear with her? She's had swimmers ear once EVER so she's not totally sure of the difference.  The reason I'm guessing it's that as of now is she has NO cold and 99.9% of her ear infections have been during and after colds.  And she says her ear was itchy, which happened last time she had swimmers ear.

I wish I knew and could just do drops without copay :/

  • I would definitely reuse.  After my son had tubes put in, his doc told me to use the same bottle when he had an ear infection a couple of weeks later.

  • Awesome, thanks guys!  Wasn't looking forward to plopping down $50 when I have a bunch in the bottle left- definitely enough for full round, if not even one more.

  • Somewhat related: growing up, there was a solution of some sort that my pediatrician gave my mom the recipe for and told her to put in our ears after we went swimming to prevent swimmer's ear... I'll ask if she remembers what it was.
    Aha! I found it here:

And I'd say as long as your prescription drops were stored properly and aren't expired, it should be OK to use the same bottle.
