Re: Pregnant Check In (July 7)

  • Hi ! i'd like to (finally) join.  We are due 2/17 w/ a singleton.

I feel tired, cranky & nauseous all the time. I guess it could be worse.  Still on progesterone, still going to RE.... we had an argument with him because they made us wait forever for no reason and he never EXPLAINED anything to us. Finally, he changed.  LOL.  1st regular OB appt thursday- new ob as my gyn was way too far for this many visits.

QOTW: we have no ideas on books yet.  we are building our own library first LOL. everyone is giving us baby books and name books and parenting books .

  • Hey all!  5 weeks 2 days pregnant and I have my first ultrasound a week from today :) Pretty excited about that.  For now my symptoms are still relatively mild.  My breasts are sore and I have some mild heartburn.  I get nauseous halfway through my meals which is kind of annoying.  On top of that I am hungry all the time.  And I'm exhausted.  Good times in first tri!

GTKY: I don't have any books for baby yet, but I will definitely build a library as the time comes closer.  I'll get tons of books from my family, I'm sure (we all love to read) and my mom's best friend is a children's media specialist so I'm sure she's going to gift me with books at some point.  I really, really want my child to love reading as much as I do but I realize it's not for everyone.  I am going to do my best to make it fun for them!!

  • Hi!

We are getting ready to hit the 12 week mark on Wednesday, which is pretty exciting.  DW feels quite a bit better, thanks to anti-puking meds, and is able to eat a fair number of things, as long as they are not her previous favorites (no fried food, no eggs, no cheeseburgers, no too-much-jam . . .).  It is an exciting time to eat in our house. :)  She  can eat fruit of all sorts, so that helps.

GTKY: We have lots of books from babies 1 (now 11yo) and 2 (now 15 months), so we will probably just add to them.  My mother was a librarian, so our library is a little outrageous.  I love children's books.  The children have classics like Ferdinand, The Little Prince, Winnie-The-Pooh, Where the Wild Things Are, Shel Silverstein, Beatrix Potter, and more.  W has been a book eater and not really willing to sit still until just recently, so only now are we starting to have him snuggle down for a story.

I think I'm going to set up a reading corner soon. It will be nice to have with all the little kiddos!

  • Hello Everyone!

I feel like garbage today!  I have just conceded to the fact that I am going to be one of those people who pukes their whole pregnancy... and I am just going to be okay with that.  I must admit, it really is old hat.... Its like, well in the next ten minutes I am probably going to puke... and then I puke and then I go on with my life.

I also am starting to look preggy eggy weggy.  Which is weird.  Not much more hiding can be done.  Even when I suck in it has little effect....

Last week I got the comic book "Pregnant Butch" in the mail from Amazon.  It is pretty hilarious and there is a lot that resounds in the narrator's experience for me!

AND... I finally got around to starting my blog... After talking to my best friend last night, he told me that I had to do it, or I would regret it... and I would.  Now I am trying to decide who to share it with.  If any of you all are interested it is called "Pregnant Boi Thinks Outloud" and is hosted by blogger.

Other than that, we had a good 4th of July.  I ran (walked) a 5K which was very hard (emotionally, not physically), we spent time with family and friends and lounged around my parent's pool.

Out next ultrasound is a week from Today.... and I just can't wait.  Squints is going to be so big!

Also @wishiwaspreggo , so glad you have joined us!  I was nervous about your Betas all week!  Not everyone gets sick, so just hope you are in that camp!

Oh my, now we are in the top 5! We are now 27w4d)

We are feeling very LARGE and tired. I have been experiencing labor pains off and on which has been a bit scary but we seem to be doing ok health wise for the girls.

I got my glucose results back (this is the second round (my OB had us take one around 12 wks and I failed 1 hour but passed the 3 hour). Apparently, I failed my 1 hour so badly on this round that they are concerned I might be diabetic (not just GD). So here I am taking the 2 hour again. Awesome.

On a positive side, our MFM visit went well. Elise is weighing in at 2lb10oz and Olivia is at 2lbs1oz. Olivia is in the 33rd percentile and growing at an average weight, but apparently Elise is an overachiever and is the the 88th percentile! The Dr said that if they continue to grow at this rate and I carry for 37 weeks they will be 7lbs and 6lbs (holy hell~~). So we shall see where that takes us

QOTW: Are you building a library for your little one (or ones)? Is there a book you want to make sure is in there? What books are a must have for your babes! Oh yes, we are building a library for our girls. For both of our showers (both sides of family are throwing us one since they are in two different areas) we have requested that guests send a book that has a personal inscription instead of a card. We received some AH-MAZ-ZING books for our first shower and I cannot wait to see what we get from the other one. One of the books that I MUST have is The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. I loved those as a child. I also want the other collections by Shel Silverstein (Where the Sidewalk Ends, A light in the Attic, etc) and M wants any Dr Suess books she can get!

  • @mrs&mrsk - Progesterone will make you tired and cranky for sure! Hang in there. It also helps your pregnancy so it's worth it. But it is a great day when you get to stop.

@robertjane33 - I kind of understand what you are saying. We never considered doing 2 for some of what I'm guessing you're reading about. While you may have some feelings to reconcile within yourself, what's done is done girl! You've got twins coming, and if you judge yourself, or others judge you, it doesn't change that fact. You'll work through it though I'm sure :).

@doodah1013 - I'm so sorry you are BarfBoi. :( I do hope it ends for you!

@cageymack - How are you almost done with the first tri already!? I thought you just got a BFP like 2 weeks ago. Time is flying!!

@shelly2314 - If you end up with GD and need a buddy, I've gotten quite adept at it in the past 7 weeks :). It really helps to have a pal, as it is a lot to manage and troubleshoot at times. Just PM me and we can sync up. And, I'm sorry, because it is a huge PITA. :(

    @wishiwaspreggo - Welcome! Hurrah!!!

@kleigh1 - How are you #1 and I'm #2!! Holy crap. SO exciting. I haven't had leg pain like you speak of, but i know contractions alone can cause that, though your scar tissue theory is a good one...

    AFM....

    MY BABY FLIPPED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ^:)^

We went in today for our weekly appointment and started with our NST, which again she did great - eight movements in 20 minutes! My b/p was great, weight completely stable (up 4 lbs total for this pregnancy...) and then we headed to ultrasound. I said "She's breech" and the tech said "um, this baby here is head down..." J was like "What!? You're kidding?!" We were *shocked* and so happy. I did start acupuncture, moxibustion and some crazy inversions but I didn't expect it to work! Now we just hope she stays this way. :) The tech did a head measurement for us and she is measuring big - like 2 weeks ahead (yikes). My fluids (a gestational diabetes thing) was just barely over the line on the high side, but our doc say she doesn't worry until it's over 30, and it was 22. Blood sugars, especially waking, continue to be just a bit out of range but super close and nothing worrisome. I just keep adjusting my insulin, and being happy that my placenta is working great. We saw one of our favorite doctors who we hadn't had for a while, and that was awesome, too. She did talk about induction around 39w if baby was getting "too big" but I am choosing NOT to think about that and just bask in the joy of having a shot at a vaginal birth!!!!!!

In other news, we finished the art and lights in the nursery!! It's totally done except for an extension cord to light up the novelty star lights over the window. Woo-hoo! I'll do a post with 'reveal' pictures soon.

And, we didn't realize this but turns out, the big neighborhood festival in the area where our shower was to be held (at my wife's coffeeshop) is next weekend! There is no way we could proceed, so now the shower has been re-located to our house. Lots of upside to this - gifts won't need to be hauled, everyone can see the nursery, it'll be comfy... downside - we have a good bit of prep to do, but stuff that honestly I needed to get done before the baby, just not by...this weekend. J's mom gets here on Thursday night so we have a houseguest to boot, but we will get it all done.

Also I found a surprisingly flattering dress for the shower at the consignment shop for $20! It's just Gap, but perfect. Oddly, I have gone DOWN a size since getting pregnant - wth? I had two people tell me I looked oddly skinny for being pregnant, and then trying on clothes, the size I was wearing were huge on me. I don't get it. But hey, if Simone wants to wear me back down to a size 8 or 10 before she exits, I'll take it! (ok that is not going to happen).

Hard to complain about anything today we're just so overjoyed to know she can be head down safely! I realize she still could turn again, but until now we didn't even know that she could actually be head down! Otherwise, I feel pretty good, sleep is fine, some aches and pains but nothing terribly noticeable. No contractions to speak of at all either, which is good! I was feeling a lot more pressure down low, but knowing she turned makes me think that is why! Hooray!

    Lil'mamaz was born on Aug 21, 2014! She's PERFECT!

  • 2MamazInSeattle- Thank goodness that your baby flipped!  Isn't it amazing that we don't completely and totally feel it when they do that?

RobertJane33- I agree there is a funny thing about IVF twins (or more).  All I can say (well, not ALL, but my main thought) is that if those judgmental folks only knew how much was endured to get a child, they would banish any judgement from their minds.  Infertility is a terrible journey and one that is only made bearable in retrospect, while holding your baby.  I have some friends with triplets and I sometimes try to imagine them without one of their children; it is impossible and I just am flummoxed at the imagined absence.  Way to embrace your kids! :)

  • Pregnancy is going good this week. Finally the exhaustion and sickness has gone and was in perfect time for my first fire call 2 days ago!
Books....I taught preschool for 10 years and have many favorites !!!!
  • I am a bit late, but better late than never :-)

I am officially 8 months today and #4 on the list!  When did that happen?  AAAHHHH

I feel baby Adalyn kick all the time, it is even getting to the point where it hurts at times.  I love seeing my belly move around and my belly button is starting to pop out.

With the progression to the third trimester I have had increased nausea, exhaustion and minor heartburn.  I had a little scare yesterday while out with the girls.  I was getting my cell phone fixed (then decided to upgrade it) and I believe my sugar dropped.  I got super hot, sweaty, light headed and almost passed out.  The employee was nice enough to let me use their employee bathroom and I ran cold water on my writs and face and felt a little better.  While all of that was going on a huge storm was passing outside and the power flickered of and on, so they were having problems getting my phone switched and working.  I felt pretty panicked and trapped, but I was ok in the long run.  I felt a little better, got the girls home and had my wife meet me there asap!  After dinner I was really cold and super tired, it was so very strange.  I am now concerned to leave the house by myself with the girls.  I have gotten light headed before but nothing that bad and I am thankful I wasn't driving and was somewhere I could sit down for a bit.  Sorry for the novel about my little episode.  Any suggestions are welcome.  I had water with me and was drinking it, I also keep peanut butter crackers, granola bars, ect in my purse or diaper bag and ate a snack when the symptoms started so I am not sure what else I could have done to prevent it.
QOTD: We have been collecting books for awhile now, though to be honest I couldn't tell you what we have by now.  My wife does bedtime with M and K the majority of the time and reads to them each night.  We got a few for our shower and I know there are some classics that my wife still wants to add to our collection.  I am hoping to get in the habit of taking the girls to the library when they get a little older too.

9 week ultrasound showed both babies are still great.
  • DW is 13w3d (due date 1/10/15). She's feeling good, we came back negative on Maternit21 and all clear on the NT scan.

We have told our parents, siblings and one aunt and uncle. After an early loss last time, we're too nervous to tell all our friends right now. I think we will prob keep it a secret until she starts showing and we literally have to tell people.

Also, we found out it's a boy! We both wanted a boy so we're super psyched.

  • I was reading too much about twins and IVF this weekend, and had this very odd reaction to it all.  Yes, we made an educated choice about transferring two.    BUT, there is also so much judgmental literature out there about parents who use IVF and then are surprised when they end up with multiples despite not wanting them.  We are definitely in that category - we were very conservative until the last go around, and it was going to be K's last IVF try for a while.  I think its the idea that we are going to be judged by others for making an irresponsible decision that is worrying me.  And to some extent, I think I might agree with that judgment, which is what makes it harder.  At this point, I can't imagine only having one, and am so excited for twins.  Its not exactly regret, but there is something odd going on.
I totally get this.  We were very committed to SETs, as was our RE.  We transferred 1 on our fresh cycle -- BFP, miscarriage.  Transferred 1 on our first FET -- BFP, miscarriage.  At that point I was convinced that many of my embryos were just not viable and that there was a high likelihood of miscarrying whatever we transferred.  Between that and the fact that our last 4 embryos were frozen in pairs -- which meant we had to thaw 2 either way -- we decided to transfer 2 on our second FET.  I figured if we lost one, we'd still have one.  I was nervous about the prospect of twins but we made peace with the possibility and started coming up with second names for each sex.  At the last moment I told my RE that although I wanted to thaw both embies and transfer whatever thawed properly, I did NOT want to go into the last straw if one of the 2 embies didn't thaw properly.  In other words, thaw that straw and transfer whatever looked good, whether it was 1 or 2.  I wanted to make sure that last straw was intact if we needed it for another shot or for a sibling.  Well, 1 embie didn't survive thaw, so we transferred the 1 that did.  That embie is now sleeping in his bouncy seat.  But I never stopped thinking about the fact that we were THIS CLOSE to transferring 2, and if we had, would have had a pretty high chance of twins.  People don't know the complex process that we go through to make these decisions.  There are often big financial reasons for making those decisions, as well (though that wasn't the case for us).  As long as you are OK with your own decision, which I think you are, then you are good!  It sounds like you're having a healthy twin pregnancy and that's all that matters.

  • Sorry I am so late wanted to wait to update until I actually had one.  I went for my first u/s on Wednesday and I am measuring to the day of where I should be.  There was a little heartbeat at about 104bpm.  We had the option of staying with the RE for one more ultrasound or going to our normal OB I decided to head to the normal OB from now forward.  I need to call and set up my first appointment there and also find out when I will be starting to get P17 injections and if I will be able to give them to myself at home or have to go in weekly to get them as well if I am getting weekly or biweekly cervical checks.

I am feeling okay constant kind of upset stomach but haven't lost my appetite yet in fact I am eating A LOT!
