Can newborns be lactose intolerant?

Going to call the dr tomorrow but for now - can a newborn by lactose Intolerant? After I feed her she gets nasally and when she breathes it sounds mucousy. Same sound like when I have a mucousy cold or something. The sound goes away after a bit but happens each time she feeds. She is EFB so I'm wondering if she can't tolerate something in my milk...

That just sounds like milk and/or mucus that naturally collects at the back of the nose or throat. Babies can't blow their noses or clear their throats like adults can, so they often sound congested and growly, especially after feedings. It'll usually go away with time or after a good round of sneezes.

Also, lactose intolerance typically causes gas and diarrhea, not congestion.

This is ds. Sometimes milk shoots out his nose. Good times.
  • Congestion can actually be a sign of a milk/soy protein intolerance, along with rash, mucousy stools, excessive fussiness, and gas.

The congestion is likely just because she is EBF - according to my pediatrician.  Also babies cannot be lactose intolerant, that is an acquired intolerance when someone is older, teens or adulthood. However they can have a milk allergy/intolerance but it is not due to the lactose. If it was a milk allergy it would be like CamrynnsMommy said and there would be other signs, rash, mucousy stool, bad gas, and even bloody stools.

Edit: I am lurking from April since I was due then but LO wasnt born until may 9, also I have done my research about milk allergies since I have one and was very concerned about LO having it too.
