Cloth Diapering

I need a plan, help! (Long, sorry)

Ok, mh is being a jerk face about diapers. I need help coming up with a plan.

Honestly, all mh likes that we have for E are the Freetimes. I have really enjoyed doing prefolds, fitteds, and flats with P while I've been home. But I go back to work in 6 weeks. I don't know how the nanny will feel about prefolds and flats (she has appeared bewildered thus far) and mh HATES them.

I have Best Bottoms covers, and 6 small inserts, but I didn't think BBs worked great for EBF poo.

Should I just get more Best Bottoms? Or should I buy another dozen Freetimes, for a total of 18 new Freetimes for P? (E's Freetimes are a bit stretched out in the legs.) So mh and the nanny can use Freetimes and I'll do the evening changes with flats and the diapers they don't like? Is there another option I'm missing?

FYI mh also hates pockets. We have 3 NB simplexes, 3 imagines, and 2 pbumz that will still fit for a little while.

On the plus side, he's annoyed enough right now that I can spend a little cash just to get something that works and makes him happy. WWYD?

  • He won't use pockets if you stuff them? I would get cheap pockets if he will. They will work for the nanny too.

If you want more freetimes and he is going to let you spend the huge chunk of cash, do that. Take advantage of him being a jerk. ;)

  • If YH is going to be changing diapers, I'd probably get a decent stash of whatever he prefers to change so long as it is also nanny-friendly. Then throw in a several diapers that you like as well so that you've got a stash that makes both of you happy. My only hesitation with Freetimes is that we've had such a hard time getting a good fit with them, but it sounds like they worked great for E so maybe P will also fit them well.

That's my worry @unaveragejane‌. We started with a full stash of Freetimes and were lucky enough that they worked perfectly for E. I'm scared to commit to it for P and them not work.

Are there any other AIOs that YH would try? Or is he just stubbornly loyal b/c they worked well for E? Worst case scenario, if P goes through a phase where the Freetimes don't fit well, you can supplement with "your" diapers and maybe have a good reason to grab some more. If you go with something like BBs for most of the non-H-preferred diapers, at least you have the option of the easy snap-in inserts, right? Plus since you don't mind flats and prefolds, you can save a little bit of cash now for the just-in-case scenario of Freetimes not working. (I feel like that doesn't sound right, but I hope it makes more sense than I think.)

  • Ditto what Jane said. I love my Simplex but right now they aren't fitting very well, so I'm really glad that I have enough other diapers in my stash that work, and I haven't had to scramble to find a solution. Plus, there are so many fun prints out there! Why restrict yourself to one brand? Do you think YH and the nanny would be more comfortable using GMD workhorses, vs the prefolds and flats?

The nanny might, but mh hates fitteds too. He doesn't want to have to touch pee when changing a diaper.

What AIOs do people recommend other than BG that are similarly priced?

What about getting a bunch of Capri or Flip covers and flats or prefolds that you tri-fold? One change is cheaper than a freetime with the bonus that they are versatile enough you can use with you BBs or other covers too and still snappi yourself on nights and weekends.

@clldll I'll see if he will go for that (we have a bunch of covers) but it won't hold NB poo well, right?

    @freezorburn‌ Aren't simplexes expensive?

  • I don't think they're much more than Elementals ...
  • What about thirsties aio?

  • I think Simplex are going up to $29 next month so you might want to get them soon, if you're going to.

  • Itti Bitti D'lish and Sweet Pea are similarly priced to Freetimes. The new Tots Bots are a tad more expensive, but they have some really cute prints. I haven't tried any of these. (I had the old Tots Bots.)

Yes covers with tri-fold/pad-fold will pretty much be a one use option with NB poo. But so are Freetimes/Simplexes. This way you have more versatility. If you get a good fitting cover just the cover will get poo covered, not P's clothes.

    1) He does most of the diaper laundry
    2) the only pockets we have ever used have leaked
    3) You have to touch a wet insert to pull it out

Ok. But really, you have to touch a wet insert? What would he do if he was the one in the relationship getting a period every month? Anyways, diaper Safari has their imagine bamboo AIO for $15 right now, and discontinued Grovia for $20. I don't know much else as we don't use many AIO (only have 1simplex and 1 bottom bumper). But diaper safari has free shipping.

FWIW, I love AIOs and the majority of my stash is AIOs and you couldn't pay me to take an Imagine again.  I hate that thing with a deep, seething passion.  And if you're going to spend $20 on a diaper, I still think you should just buy him what he likes.

Didn't someone like them on here? MK? Or am I making things up?

that's a lot of "what ifs?" He's able to have his preferences

I can't specifically speak to the Imagine AIO's, but I LOVE my Nicki's.  But it's one of those "pseudo"aio's in that the soaker snaps in.  I think it's best to unsnap them before washing-I've had snaps fall off during the wash cycle. Not Nicki's specifically, but
