Need inserts recs

Hey ladies, I want to slowly replace the MF inserts in our BG 4.0s with natural fibers. What inserts have you found that you like and will fit a 4.0 well?

We have some bamboo inserts that came with a couple kawaiis and we've been happy with those. I also just got some BB hemp/cover to try but am still prepping it. I prefer inserts to prefolds bc they're a little less bulky. Suggestions?

  • I'm a big fan of stuffing pockets with flats. GMD flats have worked well for us. The only other brand I have tried are Disana muslin, which I don't like because they need to be ironed and I don't have time for that.

I second GMD flats. I also really like AC 2ply bamboo, but they are pretty pricey so I supplement with flats.

@CLLDLL‌ do you need one or two of the AC bamboo per pocket? Does it just depend on how heavy of a wetter LO is?

Also, what size flats? I don't own any so I have nothing to compare. I just want it to fit the pocket without extra. The medium prefolds I occasionally stuff with for ON are far too long and I have to fold over.

flats are, generally, OS. 27x27.  you can fold them to fit inside a pocket.

but maybe I'm wrong about them not being sized

I just use one AC and its plenty for a non-heavy wetter. Even when he was a heavy wetter one was plenty for daytime. I used two for naps and nighttime before he started tummy sleeping.

The AC inserts are a rectangle about the size of a small prefold. You can tri-fold them the short way to fit in a OS pocket on the smallest and middle rises. Or you can fold in half the long way to fit in the middle and largest rises.

Most flats just come in one size 27 x 27 after shrinking. Some brands (GMD and Imagine) also offer a large that is around 29 x29 after shrinking. I like the standard size for pad folding in OS pockets on the small and middle rise. I like the larger size for the biggest rise.

I also like tri folded AC bamboo. They are really absorbent and wash up great. Only problem is that they are quite expensive.

    Ironed? Who would do that?
  • I agree either the applecheeks bamboo. To go cheaper you can order the bamboo fleese from amazon snd make your own. I did this but made three layer. I got four out of one yard of fabric, so instead of 40$+. I only spent 17.
