Diastasis Recti?

I'm 27 weeks today, and last night every time I attempted to roll over or move in any way that used my stomach muscles I was in so much pain. I looked it up and it sounds like this is about the time that my belly is preparing for third tri (one week from third tri, holy crow!) Anyone else experiencing this right now? Any STMs have any tips for pain relief? I toss and turn a lot when I sleep, and the idea of waking up in pain every time is not appealing. :-<

Re: Diastasis Recti?

  • It isn't really diastasis during pregnancy because everyone separates but after

My only advice is it will pass but your baby is probably in a spurt

  • I had it last time and this time it started much sooner.   The only thing that seems to help me is soaking in the tub, or swimming/floating.

  • For an entire day my belly button hurt and the muscles that surrounded it. I just had to relax. That night I let hot water run on it for awhile in the shower. The next morning I felt better but still sore.

Try warm/hot compresses and try not to strain so much. I know that's kind of impossible right now but it will help.

I just read something about how important it is to really watch your posture later in pregnancy in order to help keep your diastasis recti from getting too bad and to help prevent lower back pain. The article suggested focusing on tucking your pelvis under and pulling your abs up and in when you're standing. I've read so many different suggestions for dealing with this condition during and after pregnancy, though.
