Babies: 3 - 6 Months

New mom with a question for you experienced mommies!!

My LO will be 8 weeks tomorrow and in the past week and a half it seems that nursing is the only thing that consoles her when she is fussy. Often times she isn't hungry- just likes the comfort. She will not take a pacifier-we have tried 4 kinds! She has also started giving us a hard time taking a bottle of breast milk.

My question is- will she outgrow this or is it something we will need to help her get over? I pretty much offer the boob any time she fusses, so I'm worried it's my fault she is like this.
TIA for any and all help!

Well, I don't feel like I'm an experienced mommy by any means as my LO is just 4 months old but he definitely comfort nurses still.  He also refused pacifiers at 2 weeks and bottles at 11 weeks.  I'd try other soothing techniques before offering the boob but if all things fail, the boob usually worked.  However, we are now just going through a stage where that's not enough to soothe him and that's rough.  If comfort nursing isn't a problem for you, then I don't see a reason to stop!

  • I guess I worry about it because I will need to return to work and was just looking for input from others who had experienced this.
  • We went through this too.  I'm pretty quick to offer the boob when I'm home.  When I'm not, and H has the baby, he has his own ways of soothing LO like holding him against his chest and shoulder (LO hates it when I hold him this way).  Whoever your caretaker is will find a non-boob way to soothe -- but it's normal for your baby to want the boob when she's with you :-)

  • My experience w my 2nd she would not take a paci used me as a pacifier. She never took a bottle,  tried so many different types of bottle nipples and nothing worked. Its not ur fault some babiea are jst very picky about their preferences.  I have a now 4 month old that is now jst like my second (now 4) only wants breast and doesn't take pacifier,  my first would only take a bottle and loved her paci I tried so hard to give her breast milk and she would not.
