Literally the night DS brought home a note from daycare saying there was a confirmed case in his class he came down with a fever. Spots showed up the next day. He is MISERABLE. Took him to dr and were told just keep up on Motrin or Tylenol to help with the pain even if he doesn't have a fever. The poor kid would be "ok" except for the sores in his mouth. He just cries and cries "teeth hurt!" because it's pain in his mouth. He is hungry and wants to eat, but every single bite he takes is followed by crying so he only eats maybe 2-3 bites of anything at a time. We can't get him to eat anything cold so ice cream, pudding, Popsicles (all the stuff they say to try) are out. I just don't know what else to do for him. I've read about mixing maalox and Benadryl equal parts and rubbing that over the sores. I really don't see him being cooperative at us even attempting that. So...any light at the end of the tunnel?! Fever started Thursday night, spots yesterday (Friday). How much more of this do we have to go through?! Any other tips?!

It took 44 cycles, just over 3 years, 6 failed IUI's in MI, and 1 round of IVF at CCRM to get our BFP!

The worst of it was over in three days for us. DS didn't complain too much about his mouth though... His was mostly on his hands and feet with just a couple blisters in his mouth. We were lucky.
Just a warning because no one warned me... About two weeks after he was seemingly recovered, the skin on his hands and feet started to peel off. That lasted a couple weeks. I was expecting it so it NBD but it was pretty gross. Then now, two months later, his nails are peeling off, too. The doc said that's somewhat common even several weeks or a couple months later. It's the disease that keeps on giving...
Yogurt, applesauce, room temp soup, mushy veggies, hummus, mushed avocado.... these were all things our DS ate when he had HFMD, but he also only had a mild case, TBH.
Thanks...my DS has this thing with textures and doesn't like anything mushy unless it's a pouch (and even those he hasn't been wanting). He cried today for THREE HOURS straight. I was ready to take him to the hospital. He'll wake himself up from sleep saying his teeth hurt! :-( We are now at the point where he doesn't even want to take his medicine. Great! :-(

Thanks. I've heard of this. DS had one finger in particular that looks nasty. Like he has a few spots on his hands but this one finger alone must have 10. I hope it doesn't scar. And I really hope he doesn't lose his finger or toe nails!
