Babies: 3 - 6 Months

summer with a 4 month old.

I go to the Dr on Tuesday, but just wanted to hear from other moms about sun and babies. I am headed on a vaca to the beach, have a tent so I will be all set, but what are thoughts on baby sunscreen for extra protection???
Thanks

Re: summer with a 4 month old.

  • We are leaving for the beach tomorrow with our 3 month old! I asked the pedi and she said sunscreen was fine to use. She reco'd aveeno, neutrogena or blue lizard and said to put on arms and legs since the sun reflects from the sand.

We are bringing her stroller for her to nap in (she loves walks!) and bought a stroller fan. We will probably take her up to the condo during lunch for a break from the heat but other than that we can dip her on the pool to cool her off!

Our pedi said no sunscreen until 6 months unless we're going to the beach or something like that.  She recommended to first test out the sunscreen on a small patch of his skin a few days before to make sure there's no reaction.  Other than that, just try to keep LO covered as much as possible (hat, sunglasses, shirt, etc...)  Have fun!
  • While it's not recommended, sunBLOCK is always better than a burn. Look for something with zinc oxide and do your best to keep lo out of the sun. Have fun!

  • We bought some organic mineral sunblock. It seems to work great and safe for baby. We've all started using it.

  • We also use a mineral based sun pro
  • Thank you everyone!!
  • Just wanted to 2nd the suggestion of the fan. Depending on the tent, it can block the breeze and become quite stuffy

  • I bought the neutrogena kind and have used it on my little guy and he is just now 4 months old. His skin is fine. Plus it says its made for babies and i read the lable too! :)  Hope this helps. Plus like someone else said its better than not putting anything on them because we dont want them to get a sun burn!
