I just read your response in the mom vent about your DD throwing up milk. Our DD does the same thing. I have not known anyone else with this issue. That is the only symptom we've seen, throwing up, and when we tried mixing part milk part soy it took a couple days to happen. We took her to see an allergist at the children's hospital. It was just a consult, not allergy testing, and based on our description she didn't think it sounded like an allergy. She said it sounded like lactose intolerance and suggested we try lactose free milk. The fact that she doesn't throw up cheese or yogurt and the fact that the milk throwing up wasn't immediate made her think it was not an allergy. Not sure if your DD is comparable but I thought I would share.
Re: @SingleMom31
I've been on mobile the last couple days, but wanted to say thanks.
That actually sounds very much like what happens with us. I did give her some milk by mistake last week for the first time in a few months (wasn't thinking and let her have some of my smoothie, which was milk based), and she kept it down, but we did get some interesting diapers after that. Since we're moving in the right direction, I'm guessing that it's similarly an intolerance vs. a true allergy.
Our pedi did add in another option - milk protein intolerance. Apparently, they can also be sensetive to Casein (one of the other proteins) and react poorly to milk, but be okay with other dairy since the protein is broken down in the process of making cheese/yogurt/butter. There's no test for it (kind of like lactose intolerance), but he did say that most kids will out grow it by 2-3. I'm actually sort of hoping for that since I'd like her to outgrow it.
Did lactose free milk work for you guys? She's happy enough on coconut milk, so we haven't experimented with other things, but as lactose free milk would probably be easier for recipes that call for milk.
I gave Milla a little milk and she had nasty poo and slept poorly. So no milk for her for now. She gets momma milk or almond milk.
I wish we would have seen a specialist. I love the kids dr, but he's a wait and see/they'll probably outgrow it type.
