Away from LO all day when EBF

Next weekend, I have an all day bachelorette party to go to. I will be away from ds for about 12 hours. I am trying to figure out when to pump, and what to do with the milk after. I have an electric pump but it's kind of big to bring around with me at night. I have a hand pump that I was considering putting in my purse
to use instead. Not sure what to do with the milk after as we will be out. I thought I could keep a cooler in my car and keep what I pump while I am near my car at the begging of the day. I am thinking I might need to dump what I use while out and away from my car? We won't be drinking (bride does not drink) so I don't have to worry about that. Any thoughts and Ideas would be appreciated!

  • It can be kept in the fridge for days so I think it should be ok in the cooler for the day. It would be a shame to dump any of it, though, any way you can keep the cooler nearby?

Milk should be good in a cooler with ice packs for 24 hours. Also, if you have a pump in a bag it might be removable to make it more compact.

  • Maybe you could buy a car adapter for the pump, pump in the car, and store so you don't have to tote the pump around with you?

  • Isn't it like to can chill BM for 5 days? It would be super annoying toting it around and ensuring it stays cool. But I guess the alternative is exploding tatas and ain't no one got time for that when having a good time :)
  • BM can be room temp for much longer than mixed formula, too...something like 4 or 5 hours. I would look it up to be sure, but I know I read that in some of my literature I've picked up since the birth. Just as an aside to give you more options.

We got a thermos type Nestle bag as a sample. It's black, not too big but lined inside to maintain the temperature and I saw one for sale at BBRUS. I just don't remember the brand :( but it's practical for toting my Medela Swing, spare batteries and several bottles if needed. You could use that as an ugly duckling alternative to a purse.
