BFing question (11.5 mos olds)

I'm still BFing my little loves and lately, N has started biting.  At first, I thought she didn't know what she was doing, but she does it and then grins at me.  It's hard not to smile back at that sweet face, but it really hurts and I want her to stop.  I generally tandem feed, so when I say sternly "no biting" it makes M cry and think she's done something wrong.  Any advice on biting in general and in biting and tandem feeding?
@sing4mysavior, any advice?

    Unlatch her immediately -and whatever you do, don't smile :)
  • Unlatch, end nursing session or just unlatch for a few seconds and let her resume?

  • My guys are about a month older but we have the exact same issue. I usually tandem and one bites (he also thrashes around and is generally uninterested in nursing).

    The biting seems to coincide w teething. About 4-6w ago, we went through a 2w period or so where he'd bite almost every session. It went on for about a week and then he stopped. But in the last week or so, he started again.

    Last time, I started nursing them separately so I could keep an eye on the biter and give more attention to the non-biter. It helped. When he'd bite, session is over immediately. I also stopped trying to force him to relatch and when I wasn't so adamant that he "get a good feeding in", he stopped biting and we went back to tandem.

    Kellymom has some good stuff on biting too.

    We just went down to am/PM nursing and I'd really like to keep that up for at least a few months, but the biter is really fighting me. I don't know if it's another teething phase. If I'm honest, he's over nursing but I'm not ready to give up yet. The other one is still content to nurse. And I know they're individuals and all but I always had it in my head they'd wean at the same time.

    So all that to say, I'm right there with you.
