3rd Trimester

Thirsty

Anyone else extremely thirsty? I drank 30 cups of water today. Is that normal? It was hot and humid out today but I've never drank that much in a day. I usually drink 8-12 cups per day.

Re: Thirsty

  • I've really noticed my thirst has turned up since I hit about 22 weeks, at first I was paranoid about GD, but my results came back clear. I asked my Dr about it and he said that with the heat, my own body being a furnace, and the amount of liquid that blows through the pregnant body that it is completely normal for me to be crazy thirsty. I think he said that if you're properly hydrated the amniotic fluid likes to replace itself every 4 hours? If that's the right number, think about how much liquid you're gonna need to do that, on top of just everything else your body needs to run properly.

  • I feel the same way. Im 38 weeks and ever since 30 I cant seem to drink enough water. I literally crave it! I dont have GD, but it is around 105 degrees here everyday so I'm sure that contributes to my extreme thirst.
  • I drink about a gallon a day since the first tri.

  • I'm always thirsty, even at night.  Sometimes especially at night.  I've decided if I'm thirsty to just drink as much water as I need, since my body clearly wants it.  Results in a lot of bathroom trips but them's the breaks.

  • I will also add, for those of you planning on breastfeeding, you have not yet begun to thirst. Seriously, I have never craved water like I did when I was breastfeeding DD. Have at least one big glass of water on hand before you start, or have someone available who can bring you one quickly, because you'll need it.
  • Yes! There doesn't seem to be enough water. Not blood sugar related - that test was good. Just always thirsty. Loving water!
