Cloth Diapering

Washer/dryer features

Hello! I've been lurking because I'm due in December and hoping to cloth diaper. We're getting a new washer and dryer before the baby comes, and I was wondering if there are any settings or bells and whistles on the machines that will be helpful when cloth diapering. Right now we've got some Whirlpools that are older than I am, so I'm looking forward to seeing what technology is available and will help make the cloth diaper laundry easier. TIA!

Re: Washer/dryer features

  • The features we have on our high efficiency top loader that I have been happy to have are a soak cycle, extra water, and the ability to save a custom program.

I wish we had, but have survived without, the ability to have truly hot water (ours is a cold water HE machine, so even on hot the water temp is tepid at best).

  • Honestly your old washer is probably better for diapers in a lot of ways, like getting enough water, and shorter wash times.
Non-HE top loaders seem to make CD laundry the easiest. The only feature I would want in a new washer would be the ability to program and save a cycle that includes a pre and post rinse at the right temps.

@jess9802 If you don't mind me asking, which brand/model do you have? DH and I looked at all the top load HE machines at lowes the other day and none of them had the option for extra water.

  • @Maybebaby7575, we have an LG WT5001CW. It's a discontinued model, so I have no idea if the newer machines have the same Water Plus feature that ours does.
