Hello, at my daughters 4month visit the pedi said her soft spot has closed or he was unable to find it. He referred us to a Craniofacial, the appointment is next week.  I was wondering if anyone is going through the same thing.  I would like to hear anyone’s story

Re: Softspot- Pedi can't find it?!?

  • This was a concern when DS was an infant. His fontanelle was very very small and the dr noticed and mentioned it right away. I could never find it and we were very concerned about it. Of course that meant I did a lot of research. Fortunately, while it was really small, it didn't close.

GL next week, let us know how it goes. I hope her soft spot is just really small.

  • The Dr said it was always small and this time he was unable to find it.  Which he never mentioned it at any of my visits.  Thanks for your support; I hope things go well on Friday!

My daughter had the same issue at her 2 month appointment. We saw a craniofacial specialist and sure enough, she had craniosynostosis (one of the sutres had fused). She had surgery to open it when she was 9 months old.

I won't lie. The diagnosis was awful and scary and the surgery was very hard to handle. However, it has great outcomes and she doesn't remember a thing about it. She's 5.5 now, and you'd never know - it's a very distant memory for us.

Check out www.craniokids.org for some support and feel free to ask specific questions if you need to - I'm happy to answer :)

  • Thank you so much ladies, for sharing your stories and support. We went to the Dr and he said her sockets are not closed so he is not concerned. Which is good for now, he is going to do a follow up in 4 months just to make sure she's okay. I feel a little relived but at the same time the fact that the Dr wants to do a follow up still scares me.
