High-Risk Pregnancy

Hyperparathyroidism

I was just wondering if anyone has been diagnosed with primary hyperparathyroidism while pregnant? If so how was the outcome and did you elect to have surgery while pregnant? (looking for actual stories not medical opinion as I have drs for that)

Re: Hyperparathyroidism

  • I have hyperparathyroid and my perinatologist thinks waiting for surgery until after pregnancy is best. I'm 10 weeks along... How about you?

  • Im 22 weeks now, but was diagnosed around 10weeks. My results were off the wall so everyone involved suggested surgery without a 2nd thought. I declined. Have not had any issues to date.
  • That's nice! I'm symptomatic and feel horrible. Vomiting multiple times each day!

    It's been hard for me!
  • Oh I can definitely relate. I remember just wanting to sleep it all away. I was nauseous, had head aches and felt dizzy all day every day. It was rough. Once I started to feel bone pain (another great symptom) I decided to take homeopathic medication. I fig cant get any worse than doing nothing at all. Fortunately for me it has been working thus far. I have energy and am able to function!

I hope you can find something that works for you that's safe during pregnancy. Has anyone suggested anything for your symptoms other than to toughen it out?

  • Pretty much just tough it out. My doctor mentioned disability but I think I'd go crazy at home all day. Although, barfing at work, headaches, complete exhaustion has gotten old.

As far as bone pain, that's been ongoing for me, even before pregnancy :-(

I'm really glad you've found some relief.
