Do your Braxton Hicks...

Here's a braxton hicks topic I've never seen discussed: do your braxton hicks contractions make you feel nauseous? I remember this from my last pregnancy, and it's happening again now. Sometimes the nausea clues me in that I'm having a BH even before the rock-hard belly.

I'm not worried or anything, just curious. And wondering how this might translate to labor. I hope I don't barf more in my second labor than I did in my first. Hah!

Mine don't make me nauseous, but I usually feel short of breath. It's like they take my breath away for a few seconds.

This is what mine do to me. They'll make stop and hold my side until I can breath again. Mine usually feel something like a bad runner's cramp/side stitch.

  • I felt nauseous during one the other day.

And I wondered the same thing, "am I going to feel nauseous through my whole labor"

    It didn't feel too awesome.

Dani, the BH nausea has been intermittent for me (in both pregnancies), and in my first labor, I only felt nauseous a couple of times, and puked twice, I think. Not too bad, actually.

  • Yuck! I'm a vomit-phobic gal, so hopefully a Zofran will get me through.

Me too on the vomit phobia! Not counting my labor, I have vomited once since I was 8 years old. My fear short-circuits the vomit reflex, I think.

This would only make sense to an emetophobe, but I actually found it really empowering to be sick in labor. I felt like my resolve was flagging and after I vomited, I thought, "if I can get through that I can get through anything!" And I did. :)

  • They haven't made me feel nauseous, but like everyone else said, they definitely take your breathe away.

  • Rock hard belly, short of breath, but no nausea for me. I do not envy you!
