Pregnant after 35

Vent: changing doctors....

Just needing to vent. Always feels better to get it out with others who are not family.
Yesterday was horrible. The night before I noticed something when wiping and called the hotline the next day to see about getting a urine sample done to check for a uti. And hopefully rule out a mc. All along I figured it to be a uti. But if you've ever experienced a mc it sits at the back of your mind. Finally after 3 hrs of waiting for the Nurse Practitioner to call me back...I got a nurse calling to tell me to go on down to the clinic bc a order was called in for a culture. Great. Only not so great. I get there and they tell me it is for tomorrow. What? And that I wouldn't get the results back for another day. More waiting and worrying. So I walked out. In tears. My mom called and said the hotline called her and was trying to get ahold of me. Said my cell was disconnected. (They dailed the wrong #). So now I am actually talking to the NP and she has the nerve to yell at me. Telling me I have no idea what I am talking about when I told her a nurse told me to come on down. I proceeded to tell her she has obviously never been through a mc before or she would be treating me with more sensitivity and not yelling at me while I am bawling.
So that is why I am moving on. I won't associate with that hospital if that is the type of ppl they leave in charge of a Pregnancy hotline. A hotline most women call when they are upset and worried.

Re: Vent: changing doctors....

  • Hi Mandy, I sympathise with you!! I'm at 12 weeks and had a ruptured ectopic last pregnancy and it makes you forever nervous about everything - it may turn out to be nothing, but that doesn't help you fell better when it seems staff are blind to your concerns.
I hope you got some resolution and have found someone better to talk to. Try not to stress too much, its not good for you either - (easy to say hard to do, I know). But our thoughts are with you.

  • Oh man that sucks.  I've never experienced a MC but through all my years of IF I know how desperately you/we all want these babies.  I hope that it's nothing and I am a huge believer that you have to go with your gut and if you need to switch Dr's then do it.  Your peace of mind is worth it.

Try not to stress like PP said easier said than done.

  • Oh, my goodness. She yelled? :( It's bad enough to be scared like that, but having a so-called professional yell would just be awful.

{{Hugs}} I hope all is ok and that you find a great new doctor.

  • Yes. Yelled a few times. Seems she is a very angry person in general. I am going to turn in a complaint. I may have called her a bad word when I hung up....but I think it was much deserved. They record those calls so when I do complain maybe they can go back and see how rude she was.
Ended up going to my family dr an hr later and he said that it looked like the start of a uti and is treating it as one. So far today nothing when I wipe. So I am feeling better mentally and physically.
Thanks everybody. A good vent is sometimes needed every now and then.

  • Man, I would flame her ass! Good for you for making a change! And glad everything seems to be ok, as ok as a UTI can be at least;)
  • I'm so sorry. That was completely unacceptable behavior on her part. A big part of the job as a medical professional is to show patience to those in need. I would absolutely lodge a complaint.

I'm sorry you were having to go through that. Hope you find a great doctor. Thank goodness it is just a UTI.

  • Got a new dr but have to wait until the 23rd for my appt. And I wasn't able to phone patient relations to complain until it was too late. So I will do it Monday. Hope everyone has a great weekend. Take it easy!

Ugh! I know a lot of nurses are overworked and stressed out, but that's so far over the line! I'm sorry you were treated like that.

  • @mandyreads, so sorry you had this happen :-( I am glad you found a new doc so quick! (((Hugs))) PGAL brain stinks, but cautious is good and yelling is not. Thank God for your reliable family doctor :-)

  • A lady from my church uses this new one. So I am very optimistic. A friend of mine said that she had changed drs at 7mths. Said she believes her baby would not have made it had she not. I can only imagine.
