Sphincter spasms?

Okay, I know we've discussed lighting cervix and babies kicking buttholes, but is anyone else getting spasms right in the bung? These seem to happen on days when I'm getting cervix kicks, but the sensation in my butt is more like a sustained, extremely painful spasm, lasting anywhere from a few seconds to 5-10 minutes. It's not a glute/sciatic/butt cheek muscle spasm -- it's right in there in what feels like my lower colon/anus. And it's not just a "knock knock" feeling like a kick -- it keeps going.

I asked my doc yesterday and she kind of shrugged and was like, yeah, pregnancy (her most common response to my questions). Just wondering if anyone else is having a fun time with this?

  • Nope, just taint thumps.

That sounds very similar to what I would often get pre-pregnancy whenever I was on my period. It would most often happen in the middle of a BM though. I've only had it once or twice so far while pregnant though.
Yes! I got frequent period butt-spasms. Kind of weird that it's happening during pregnancy, too. When it happened today, which was one of the worst ones yet, it was right after I peed, so maybe it has something to do with going to the bathroom.

  • I get these sometimes when I'm constipated.  I've been pretty good so far during pregnancy, but yes, I've had these before.  They're painful and they suck.

  • I've had those for sure. In fact, I got a big one the day before I got my BFP and then for the next couple of weeks had them regularly. Now I get them from time to time but not like the first few weeks of pregnancy. It's weird and I don't really know what causes them. Dr said they are normal.

Yes, I've had them both while pg and pre-pg.  They are aweful.
  • I'm especially enjoying them combined with hemorrhoids. :-(

  • Nope, I'm just enjoying old-fashioned kicking inside my ass. Maybe my body will decide to switch it up a bit and allow me the pleasure of a sphincter spasm......ah pregnancy.
  • Thanks, ladies. I don't wish these pains on anyone but it is good to know I'm not the only one with a spastic ass.

Oh no! I really hope those go away for you. TMI, but earlier in pregnancy I had an
anal fissure. Don't even google it -- just know it's the worst. So painful. Butt troubles during pregnancy really suck.

  • I've had them for years, along with a recurrent anal fissure that decided it's going to make a resurgence with my pregnancy constipation.  My GI gave me an explanation for the spasms post an exam, and it had something to do with an overly tight muscle.

Omg, I'm not alone. I read about the overly tight sphincter issue, and am pretty sure that's my problem, too. (I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere, but it's so not funny when you're going through it.) I live in fear of recurrence and am always thrilled when I have soft poos.
