Pregnant after 35

This day is going from bad to worse!

So of course at 5am the smoke detector starts beeping (battery is dying).  DH is traveling so I get our step ladder out (we have VERY high ceilings which I am now cursing).  I can barely reach it but I at least get it to silence (silences it for 8 hours).  Then 10 min later another one starts beeping.  I can't get this one to silence instead it goes off (sorry neighbors - we live in a condo / brownstone).  Turn it off but it is still beeping every min or so. I can't replace the batteries myself since I can barely reach it on the top step of the ladder, so I email our handyman - thankfully he is coming later this morning.  Normally I would just put on heels and then get back on the ladder but am thinking that isn't the smartest move when pregnant.

So I get ready, and flee my house.  Go to coffee shop with wifi for a few hours.  I have breakfast there and am feeling ok.  Walking home and suddenly start dry heaving and then - throw up - on the sidewalk!! (I at least tried to get it on the mulch at a tree rather than the middle of the sidewalk).  These 2 landscapers outside a shop look at me like I am crazy... and ask if I am ok - I explain I have morning sickness and apologize and walk away.

I have had very little actual throwing up - only once or twice... this better not be a new phase for me!  Can this day get any worse?  Ugh!

Any tips on how to avoid throwing up - particularly in the street / public - are greatly appreciated!

    Oh, no! :(

Let your DH handle all ladder-related activities from now on, ok? (ETA: Oh, I missed where you typed that he was traveling. Of course. Murphy's Law, eh? :-P )

As for the m/s, try keeping candied ginger in your purse/pocket. That helped me a lot early on.

I hope your day gets better!

  • Thanks Ladies.  I have had morning sickness for a while - but just nausea and dry heaving... only a couple times has something come up - and usually just where you get a little in your mouth or have to spit. (sorry, gross I know)  This was a whole other thing.

I have ginger beer (ale is too sweet and since ginger beer isn't alcoholic I keep that at home - dr said it was ok - checked since I was skeptical it was really non-alcoholic due to name).  The candies I have tried and they don't help.  My mom (who we told this weekend) suggested keeping plastic baggies in my purse... in addition to the saltines and bottle of water.

And yes - thankfully the beeping has stopped.  Turns out we have 6 detectors (total overkill since we have a 2 floor 1900 sq foot condo!).  I had the handyman replace batteries in ALL of them as a preventative measure.

Samuelismomma - I stopped progesterone suppositories this weekend... maybe that has to do with it?  I was also hoping that symptoms would start to decline by week 10... no such luck apparently!

  • Yes, keep sandwich bags with you to throw up in and a bottle of water to swish around your mouth after. Wet wipes to clean with. Gum and candies to suck on. Dry snacks when you do feel nauseas.

I've got a whole arsenal of supplies in my purse. Lol.
