Resume building resources

I think it's time to look for another job. There are some things going on within my company that lead me to think my job may be relocated to our corporate office. For various reasons, I can't make that move so now I need to work on my resume.  Interviewing is certainly not my strong point so I really want my resume to be great. And hopefully I can work on my interviewing skills as well.  Does anyone have any recommendations for building your resume? Any websites I should check out?

Re: Resume building resources

  • I'm looking at applying for a posotion within my current company just a different department. I don't have all the experience they are asking for but I haven't spoken to HR yet. My boss is on the interview team so I may be able to get some tips from him on interviewing.

  • I just went through rewriting me resume...it is the most difficult thing to write!  Above all else I would find the most successful person you know and ask if they would review your resume. My colleague and my husband both reviewed mine and gave invaluable feedback that wouldn't have been available on the web. Also, a "professional" resume writer (or reviewer)...I've just never been impressed. My husband spent $400 on getting his resume professionally done and while it sounds impressive (his career accomplishments made that part easy) I thought some of the formatting was awkward (but they are the experts so what do I know?)

    good luck!

  • I doubt my local library has anything since it's such a small town but I'll check with the larger library an hour away. I forgot about my alma mater. I do remember they have career resources so I'll have to look into that. Thanks all! It's a bit intimidating for me but I need to get on it.

  • @emmyg65 Thank you so much for that website!! I've only had a few minutes to check it out but I can tell it will be a big help. It's hard to measure most of my accomplishments and I've already read a couple of her articles on the subject.
