Pregnant after IF

Release from RE ? and Intro

Hi All! I just joined "bump" and happy to be pregnant with twins after 4 years of IF treatments.

We were released from our RE today at 8 weeks 5 days. Our first appt. with the OB will be in 6 weeks (14 weeks). From your experience, is this late to be meeting an OB? I was anticipating 11-12 weeks for that.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to celebrating and supporting all of you guys!

Congrats and welcome!  That does seem like a long time, my RE released me earlier at 6 weeks and told me to schedule my first OB appointment within 2-3 weeks.  Could you call back your OB and tell them that your RE wanted you to schedule sooner?

  • This seems a little late to me. Technically, I didn't see my OB till16 wks but I did meet with the nurse at 11 wks and the nurse practitioner at 12 wks. The nurse appointment was to go over my history as well as decide the amount of genetic screening I wanted. I also had a slew of blood tests ran at the appointment.

The nurse practitioner appointment was like a regular OB appointment. I had a quick ultra sound, went over my test results and answered any questions.

If you want the NT scan done it has to be done before that time so I would push for an earlier appointment.

14 weeks is late to me especially if you want the NT scan. It should be done before 13 weeks. Not sure of your age but you might want to call a MFm to ask if you should be seen sooner. I was seen at 10 weeks.

  • First off, congratulations!

Second, that does seem a little late. It might be the OB's policy, but considering you are having twins I would figure they'd want you in there as soon as possible (my OB was actually monitoring me for RE since RE is out of town, but after I graduated at 10 weeks OB wanted me in for ultrasounds once a week for the entire first tri -- although I didn't meet with the actual OB until 13 weeks).

If you don't feel like you are getting the care you need with this OB, can you try to find another one?

I agree with everyone else. ESPECIALLY with twinsies that seems like a long time to wait in between docs. My RE suggested I see my OB exactly 2 weeks after my release date and then my RE's nurse called me and said she'd rather me make a appointment for 1 week after my realease date. She said otherwsie patients don't really have a "place" to call if they need help or answers and that's exactly how I felt in between leaving my RE and waitng to see my OB! And htat was only a week! lol I saw my OB at 10 weeks. I'd call and see if they will move it up. Or, consider switching OBs.

  • Congrats and welcome!

I agree with everyone that 14w is late. I was released at 8w with the instruction to have my first OB appointment 1-2w later. I am surprised that with twins your OB does not want to see you sooner. And as others have mentioned, an appointment that late limits you to options with genetic testing, like the NT scan, if that is something you are interested in. I would call and move it up and if they are unwilling to do that, I would seriously consider finding another OB. GL!

  • Welcome and congratulations!!! Just echoing what others have already said... I would call your OB and ask for an earlier appointment, especially if you want to do the NT scan or any genetic screenings. My RE wants his patients under their OB's care before graduating. Good luck!

  • Welcome & congrats! Agree with everyone too. . .14 weeks seems late. I was released from my RE at 9 weeks and seen by my Ob at 10 weeks. My RE did recommend that I be seen by an Ob no more than 2 weeks after my last appt. with him.

  • At 6 wks my RE told me to call and schedule an OB appt because I would be released at 8 wks and they wanted an appt on the books before 12wks. I think 14wks is a bit late as well, especially for your 1st appt. I would call and reschedule.
