My LO is teething FIERCELY or so
I thought... She has been so miserable since Sunday. She's never woken up 3+ Times a night but the last few night she has. She is deft cutting multiple teeth..and the drool is crazy. She got a little rash on her face which I thought was from drool. And I also read diaper rashes and teething are common. She has a little rash on her knee but I thought it was from crawling on the rug..

So my FI went to drop her off at cd today and the teacher said she has hand foot mouth disease and that one of the kids had it last week. She only goes Tuesday and Wednesday so for some reason we didn't get that memo!!!!

I feel like the worst mother. How did I over look this? My poor baby was in so much pain... I feel like an idiot.

My SIL and brother watched her Sunday and my SIL is 34weeks pregnant and I'm worried about her getting sick. does anyone know if it's contagious to adults?

I believe HFM disease is a virus, so I would imagine it would spread easily - I would just sanitize what you can, and call the pedi. I'm thinking Tylenol would really be the only thing you can give though, as most viruses just have to run their course. I hope she feels better soon!

thanks ladies! I think HFM sounds a lot worse than it is. I know she'll be ok I just feel like an idiot that I assumed these symptoms my FI is taking her in at 1. I am nervous about my SIL though..hopefully she won't get it.

my kids had HFM about 6 weeks ago-- and it's safe for pregnant people to be around. it is very unlikely for adults to get it (although my h did get it, and he got it bad.....he's on immunosuppresent rx, though). you're not a bad mom, it happens...and it's a very easily spread virus, that is contagious before the symptoms, so nobody had any way of knowing. and there's nothing you can do to treat the HFM, other then keeping baby comfortable. hang in there.

@carawasa‌ Don't feed bad! So many things can be blamed on teething and many times teething IS the cause! At least you found out about the HFM at DC and can get LO checked out. Hope she recovers quickly!!

That happened to us about 8 weeks ago as well. Had no idea. We just had to keep them home until they were fever free for a 24 hour period. Unfortunately I don't think there's much you can do.

Aww poor thing.    Don't feel bad that you didn't catch it immediately, its so hard to tell what is wrong with these babies sometimes.  I blame everything on teething. Hope she is feeling better soon!

Awww, I'm sorry to hear your lo is sick Try not to feel too bad about not realizing. It's so hard to know what's going on with them!

Our whole house got it and it sucks. We had the kind that only manifests in the back of the throat with high fever. I alternated Motrin and Tylenol and after about 5 days it had passed.

Ugh, we had the same thing going around daycare too. We kept him out last Friday and yesterday. He came home Thursday with 2 little spots on his cheek, DC told us that he was getting it. We researched and called the pedi - she wasn't concerned that he had it and told us to keep an eye on it. He was fine over the weekend but didn't feel good Sunday. He cut 2 top teeth Sunday afternoon and so I chalked it up to teething. Don't beat yourself up over it, the symptoms are pretty darn close to teething and I've thought the same thing about DS.

LO got HFM in May. I had no idea what it was at the time, but he was miserable as well. It is a virus that spreads easily amongst kids especially when it gets warmer out. Don't beat yourself up about it. You didn't do anything wrong.

It is rare for adults to get it but DH did, and it was miserable. He was so sick and the rash turned to blisters.

My little one didn't get it...yet.  But my older two have had it and I didn't realize it until we were at a playdate and someone pointed it out to me.  I was so embarrassed, I wanted to Homer into the bushes.

I never went back to that moms group again.

@norbert5‌ that's exactly how I felt. Like oh RLLY?! I was embarrassed and it ruined my day.

@quartermisses‌ sorry to disappoint. After the last few nights I am NOT feeling fertile!

But she went to the pedi and all is good in the hood. It sounds a lot worse than it is...and they should rename this virus.
