Pregnant after IF

Insomnia

XP from 3rd trimester:

If you had it, what helped?  I've tried the whole night routine & sleep hygiene, reading, night meditation, relaxation, etc. I can't use Benadryl, it has the opposite effect on me. I did not fall asleep last night until 6 am. I have a 20 month old, so this is not going to work.

Re: Insomnia

  • Pregnancy pillow?  The mini-Snoogle did not work for me, but I have been loving the Leachco Back and Body pillow - though the pillowcase it comes with is awful (rough and scratchy).  I took 3 king-sized pillowcases, cut one of them open to put it in the middle, and put whole ones on each "arm."  It has made a HUGE difference for me.  Good luck!

Hopefully, you figure it out but mine was starting at 4 months and has only gotten progressively worse. I usually only get between 1-3 hrs. A night not at a time. At some point things that have worked: listening to music with headphones and sleeping with them in (josh groban pandora), I usually take a night time shower ( at least calms me), word searches to tire eyes, rocking in the dark on an exercise/birthing ball, breathing exercises off of YouTube. good luck. My MFM said I could use melatonin but I never tried it. Ugh...feeling your agony.

  • I'm right there with you! I cannot sleep. I've been told that if you don't fall asleep in 20 minutes to get up, go do something, and then try again in 15 or 20 minutes. Easier said than done when I'm tossing and turning (and usually cursing the fact that I can't sleep lol). I usually just play on my phone until I'm tired again, but sometimes that takes hours.

  • My pregnancy pillow helps a little. My new trick is audio books. When I wake up in the middle of the night I pop in my headphones and listen to an audio book on my iPad. I have been falling back asleep within 30 minutes, which is much better than I was doing if I started reading or surfing Facebook. Good luck!

  • Same here, just started. Don't know if I'd call it insomnia, but I've been waking up at 4am for the last few nights. Not uncomfortable, don't need to use the bathroom, just waking up.
