Schedule @ 8 wks?

My LO doesn't have a nighttime routine. Are there any more mothers who don't have a regimen to get their LO to sleep every night? If you have a routine please share.

We don't! With a 2 year old and little one, we just go with the flow and make sure we are all alive and in the bed at a decent time!

  • We don't have one yet. DS always has a bottle between 8-9 pm and he just passes out so we swaddle him and put him in his crib. He has done this from the get-go! We will probably start more of a routine once he is a little older, before I go back to work, but this is working for us at the moment.

Not at 8 weeks yet but DH has that week off and we plan on getting him on one not strict but you know something more than randomness it is now lol! Currently the only routine we do have that's different than day sleep is we change him into just a clean diaper then swaddle him...I nurse him til he falls off and DH moves him for me...with this we have gotten many 5-7 h nights and when he gets up to eat we do it again then when he's up once more he's out of the swaddle and into clothes for the day :)

  • Thanks. DS fights sleep now (day or night) but of course it's more important at night. Perhaps we should give him a bottle instead of allowing him to nurse.

Yeah, we swaddle as well but it seems like DS is still hungry after nursing even though he's the one who falls off (sleep of course). DH literally just gave him a bottle after he nursed...sigh...no 5-7 hr nights here even though he's often nursed with diaper only then swaddled again and back in the bassinet...sigh....

  • Bath around 9:30, then swaddle, and then eat until she falls off then she is usually out from 5-6 hours good luck! Hope this stays for her :)
  • Our only routine is bath at 8ish, last feeding at 9ish, then putting LO down to sleep after that. Sometimes she falls asleep immediately. Sometimes she's awake for an hour.
  • We follow a sequence. I try to have him nursing for 830 at night.

Bath or walk in the stroller. Diaper change and dress in sleep sack, nurse and pass out. He's asleep anywhere from 9-10 depending.

we have a routine but not a strict schedule. Bath at around 8.30, that makes him all hyper for some reason so then he nurses until he calms down, then a clean diaper, pjs and swaddle, nurses some more, sing some nursery rhymes and then down when he is getting drowsy. That usually takes around 1-1.5 hours. I usually hear him on the monitor jabbering to himself for a while after the lights go out and then goes to sleep. Been doing this since 4 weeks and we get an average of 5 hours out of him.

We start the bedtime routine after his last awake period in the evening. It usually ends up being somewhere around 7 or 8. We feed him, then give him a bath, put his jammies on and swaddle him, then into his RnP. Sometimes there are some interruptions while big brother's bedtime routine gets finished, but that is what we are doing most nights. He will sleep anywhere from 7-10 hrs at night (we do feed him before we go to bed so that helps). Once we added in a predictable night time routine he had started sleeping longer stretches more consistantly.

  • We are working on it, but roughly, diaper change, then a quick massage with the J&J bedtime lotion (just arms and legs) with a song, then swaddle. If she's calm she will go down right then, if not I lay her on my chest tummy down and rub her back until she calms down or nods off. If she's hungry at this time, I'll nurse and she'll nod off.

  • Sometime between 7:30 and 8:15 (based on when he signals he is tired) I take him in our room and turn off the lights. TV is still on but volume is low. Then I change his diaper, put on sleeper and swaddle. I feed him and then either bounce/shh him if not asleep or cuddle with him if asleep. Either way once asleep we cuddle for about 10-15 minutes and then I put him in his RNP next to me. I turn off the tv about 9 or. 9:30 and go to sleep.

DH puts DS1 to bed about 8 so he comes in and says night to ds2 and I while he is nursing.
