Is it way too soon to transition to a toddler bed?
We've been having some sleep issues lately, which I think may be separation anxiety related (just started daycare twice/week) but I've also been trying to wean a little more aggressively because I don't really want to tandem nurse come December. I've been having less success getting DS to take a bottle from me at night and for naps, but when I do get him to sleep, I'm having some trouble getting him into his crib as I'm getting bigger.
I know ideally I would put him in his crib and he would fall asleep on his own, but I don't know how to get there at this point without hours of crying. So I thought a toddler bed might help shake things up enough for a new routine. Thoughts?

The problem is that my arms aren't long enough to put him down without plopping him a bit. I'm not sure if a stool would help or not.
At this point, once we get the furniture anchored, I'm less concerned about him getting out of bed and playing in the middle of the night than I am about the 2+ hours of screaming in the middle of the night for no readily apparent reason.
And also, my auntie put her daughter into her big bed when she was about a year and a half or a little younger because she absolutely hated sleeping in her crib. They converted it into the double and then they just put bed rails on. She would move around in her sleep but the bed rails kept her from falling off. There are spaces near the foot of the bed, but she didn't know to climb down or anything.
