Re: Getting Healthy Check-in!

  • 1. How was your week? I did 22.5 miles on the treadmill and going to and from work, mostly power walking but some jogging. That's over my goal of 20 miles per week.

    2. What is your small victory you'd like to share? I got up early six out of seven days to hit the gym! (I had to take one day off because the letrozole was making me woozy.) Also, I'm down two pounds.

    3. Are you facing any current challenges that you are trying to overcome? I always stayed fit by walking everywhere (I haven't had my own car since 2006). But with the polar vortex, followed by a crazy humid summer, I didn't get out much and my weight is the highest it's ever been. So, while the treadmill isn't perfect, it keeps me moving. Mostly, I get bored.

    4. If you have a goal for the coming week, share! Walk or run 20 miles. My big goal, if I don't get preggo soon, is to fit back into my wedding gown by the end of summer.
Me: 38 DH: 40 TTC#1 (and likely only) since 9/13. Saw RE 5/14, SA good, AMH 2.36, FSH 7.2, estradiol 69.6 indicating good egg reserve. Using OPKs. First Letrozole cycle 6/14, a burst cyst and a BFN. Second Letrozole cycle 7/14, BFN.

Update 11/14 - had laparoscopy 10/28, good news is that my uterus and left tube look good, and they were able to drain the cyst on my left ovary. Bad news is that right tube and ovary have endo and scar tissue, so they're pretty useless.. Best news is that we finally have some answers and a path forward. Taking 7.5 mg letrozole CD 2-6 to put that good left ovary through its paces.

UPDATE 2/2015 - We switched to another fertility clinic, but fortunately we don't have to start all over. We're doing two cycles of Clomid plus IUI, if neither of those take, we'll do IVF in April, potentially with ICSI. (DH's SA has gone downhill, likely due to excessive exercise.) IUI#1 2/25/15....

  • @austrogermokee, 20+ miles is HUGE!!! I mean, I know it probably is very manageable for you because you said you pretty much walk everywhere, which is awesome in it's own right. But wow, that's fantastic! I walked/jogged 7 in the past week and feel like that was a huge achievement! Holy crap, 20+?

  • MamaBear, I live 1.5 miles from my office and my bus is super unreliable. So if my bus is going to make me late for work, I just walk instead. It takes about 30 minutes and it's nice to feel I've achieved something before breakfast. I keep a spreadsheet of the distance, and I hope to be up to 25 miles a week in August. I'm about 1/4 jogging (5 mph) and 3/4 brisk walking (3-4 mph):

    06/21/14 4
    06/22/14 4
    06/23/14 3.5
    06/24/14 3.5
    06/25/14 0
    06/26/14 4
    06/27/14 3.5
    Total
    22.5

    1. How was your week?
Not the best. Was really moody, had AF from hell, had a ton of meetings after work, and that all interfered with my workout time.

    2. What is your small victory you'd like to share?
I FINALLY weeded the last of my really big flower beds, and it looks amazing! New mulch and everything. That in itself IS a workout. ***ALSO: Had my wedding dress fitting, and with all the clean eating I have been doing, it was actually a little big on me in the waist! Made me feel good :)

    3. Are you facing any current challenges that you are trying to overcome?
Stress. With the wedding fast approaching, home repairs to deal with and just life in general...I am a ball of anxiety.

    4. If you have a goal for the coming week, share!
This week- Workout HARD. It *is* my birthday on Wednesday though, so I might splurge a little on alcohol and bad-for-me food....but...I am still going to workout like crazy!
  • I love that. It would never be an option for me because a) I work far from home and b) I could probably make it about 1 block before being drenched in sweat (gotta love this Florida heat). I have an awesome area to walk during lunch but it's just too damn hot here. I do enjoy doing that walk once the heat breaks in October!

  • @austrogermokee - Daaamn, woman! That is a LONG haul! I can barely run a 5K...haha! We weight lifters don't do much cardio. ;)

@MamaBear904 - A 3lb loss in a week is huge! So happy for you!

@lgsdesigner, If it makes you feel any better, I don't do strength training and I'm totally weak. I'm always following DH around the house asking him to open jars for me. I'm hoping to add two 15-minute yoga/strength training sessions soon on Wii Fit.

  • Austrogermokee - I have a few friends who are runners. Their legs are solid muscle, but they have no upper body strength whatsoever. I'm always opening jars for them...but then I am the one on the escalator while they take the stairs! ;)
  • 1. How was your week? Not so great, regrettably.  Having a house guest combined with sleep disturbance due to construction next door meant that I only did about half of my week's program.
    2. What is your small victory you'd like to share? My weight is not going up anymore after going up 5 pounds.
    3. Are you facing any current challenges that you are trying to overcome?Like @MamaBear904 I'm dealing with heat + humidity problems.  I'm ok in the heat and humidity itself, but the sweat means that I have to wash my hair more often and that a PITA.  I normally only wash my hair every 5-7 days.
    4. If you have a goal for the coming week, share!I'm gonna try and do 3 hours of walking this week + 2 body weight sessions.  A HIIT session would be a bonus.

@NeonMoon, OMG what I would give for the ability to go multiple days without washing my hair! It's so damn frustrating because I have to wash my hair every. single. day or else it looks like an oil slick. When I get back from the gym and shower, I then have to blow dry my hair. Add that to my already hot body and I'm sweating again in no time!!!

@hooligans4, great job on finally seeing weight loss again! Good for you! Did you change anything with your diet or just try the new workouts?

  • @MamaBear904‌ still doing the same calories with MyFitPal. I just added the yoga and Pilates. I want to loose 9 more pounds. I still need to loose 6 to get out of the "overweight" BMI range. Once I do that I have no idea what I'm going to have to do to maintain. I have a feeling this is going to be a lifelong struggle.

  • @hooligans4 You go girl! Love that your pants are falling off! LOL! Good excuse to shop. :)
Sending encouraging thoughts to all you other ladies! Let's all hope to get out of the 4th celebrations with little to no damage.

    1. My week was great...it's the weekend that was the problem!

    2. I was flucuating +/- 3lbs. I'm back down to my halfway mark (needed to lose 30lbs to get my IUI) and I'm hoping I'm back on track!

    3. I was trying to "eat clean" last week. That did not work for me. I need something sweet every now and again. So I'm going back to low cal stuff; thank god for Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches!

    4. My goal this week is to workout for 30 minutes Monday - Friday. I want to increase my speed (I'm power walking on the treadmill) daily.

  • I would caution you with the low cal stuff because they usually add either a lot of sodium or sugar (or sugar substitute) to keep the flavor of things... I would limit how many low cal, low fat, fat free items you eat to maybe your ice cream sandwiches and focus more on portion size. I'm preaching to the choir here because I need to do the same!

  • @soontobeshrader - Here are some great options for the sweet tooth:
    - Oikos Frozen Greek Yogurt (I like the Key Lime one)
    - 2 squares of 60% dark chocolate
    - A bowl of Kashi 11g Protein cereal (I like Vanilla Cluster)
    - A bowl of diced strawberries and blueberries with 1 tbsp low fat whip cream

    Hope this helps!

  • Thanks for the advice and tips @Mamabear904 & @lgsdesigner

I am definitely working on portion size and I use myfitness pal to count calories and watch the other nutrition info. I don't do a lot of low cal/no fat items. In fact I've all but given up diet sodas. I am doing what I can to stick to natural & "clean" food products. But sometimes at the end of the day, I need a treat to reward the hard work...so I go for the skinny cow. I figure that can't be too bad, if I'm doing pretty good at all the other stuff.

I hate yogurt with the fire of a thousand suns. I really wish I could get on the yogurt bandwagon, but I can't. I've tried! But the other treats might work too. Thanks!

  • I'm the same way @soontobeshrader‌ sometimes I like a reward at the end of the day. I love the weight watchers chocolate covered raspberry ice cream bars. Yum yum and only 90 calories
