Nolan David's Birth Story (Insert Creative Title Here For CinnamonSmiles)

So, as many of you who were checking out the Daily Symptom Thread know, this story starts out almost 2 weeks before LO came.
My dog woke me up on a Sun by pushing me off of our bed. I used this as an excuse to go to the bathroom, and noticed some bright red mucous when I wiped. I looked at the floor, and there was a chunk on the floor as well. I started feeling crampy and contacted my birth coach, who told me that I probably had lost my mucous plug. Thought there would be a bit of early excitement but no such luck. My due date came and went with nothing else going on. DH came back from working out of town and we started trying to DTD til this kid came out. The light bleeding came back after the first session, and continued over the next few days. On Tues (the 24th) we did some gardening in the yard, which involved a lot of me squatting down to ground level to kill bugs. I attributed some light back pain to this, and continued doing what I normally did. We met with extended family for lunch (delicious pizza and tried some beer!) and decided to go for a walk that evening. After the walk the back pain came back and I decided to get ready for bed.

At 10:30pm, I felt one intense pain shoot from my back to my front, and I realized it was a legit contraction. When it happened again, I told my husband, who began getting things ready. He asked how long labor usually takes, and I told him we had plenty of time as they are normally 12+hrs for FTM. I texted my coach, who told us to let her know how far apart they were. When we timed, we were shocked to see they were already 6 minutes apart. She arrived not even an hour later to contractions being 3 minutes apart. I desperately wanted a natural birth, and so she had us labor at the house as long as possible. Labor was nothing like I had expected - I had bad menstrual cramps pre-preg and expected that, but I was having intense back labor and nothing in the front. DH was there at every contraction massaging my lower back, and held back my hair as I threw up our dinner. At 2:30am I had a particularly intense contraction (they were now 1.5 minutes apart) and began grunting. My coach asked how that one felt and I told her like I had to take a poop. She immediately told us to go to the hospital and she would meet us there. In the car I began having pushing contractions and did nothing whatsoever to hold them in. They wheeled me in a wheelchair with me screaming my head off at 3:15am (:P). Someone gave us directions to the ER instead of L&D, and I was not nice to him afterward. We arrived at triage and they instructed me to climb on a bed, where my water broke immediately on laying down. The MW on call (not mine) came in to checked me, and I was fully effaced and fully dilated.

They rushed me into L&D where they told me they didn't have time to give an IV or drugs, which meant that I was going to get the birth I had asked for whether I wanted it or not. I began pushing immediately, which really just felt like taking a massive dump. Due to my back pain they were concerned that he was posterior, but every time they tried to check I yelled at them to not touch me (yes, that selfishly). I definitely felt the ring of fire as his head crowned, and the only thing that kept me pushing hard was DH's excitement ("I see his head! He's so close! You can do it!"). I pushed with all of my might and he came out in one gush, screaming his head off. He is a redhead and I don't know where that came from!! Which made me so excited. We did skin-to-skin immediately, and they asked if I wanted a muscle shot of pitocin to stop contractions. I turned it down and delivered the complete placenta naturally, which was nothing compared to labor. I knew I tore and asked the damage - a second-degree midline. They sewed me up as I filled out paperwork and set to checking out Nolan. He passed his tests and came back to DH, who held him skin-to-skin while I flinched my way through the stitching. You guys have no idea how happy and thankful I am that DH was able to be there for the birth. LO nursed like a champ and is probably the cutest baby I have ever seen.  And now for pictures :)
