I am in IL hell

My ILs are staying with us for 3 weeks. They live abroad and come once a year for an extended stay (with us!). I posted about his last week. We are down 1 week and two to go. This is the hardest point in the trip. The first week we are all happy to see each other, but with a week down and still 2 weeks ahead... The thrill is gone... They can't drive here so we are attached at the hip. MIL has some super annoying habits that get under my skin. My H has been drinking since noon.... And for once in my life, I am ThRILLED that tomorrow is Monday and I get to go to work.

  • @rvasc‌ yes, I go for a walk/jog daily. MIL keeps "joining me" :| and she forgot her sneakers, so she complains the whole time that her feet hurt. I took her to get sneakers yesterday and sat outside in the car while she shopped. She couldn't find any "nice ones" but bought 2 pairs of dress shoes. Save me

  • Oh good lord, I could not put up with any of our family (mine or ILs!) staying in our house for 3 weeks straight (not that we have the room for it anyway, but hypothetically speaking).

Open some wine and go take a "long bathroom break" or something!

  • I'm so sorry. I don't have any advice, just sympathy.

  • We live 10 minutes from my ILs, who are here right now. I have often wondered if it would be better to live close abd see them often or to live far away but deal wIth extended visits. If visits last 3 weeks, there is no way I'd want to deal with that.

Can you and your H at least get a date night/ free baby sitting out of it?

Opened this thread hoping you weren't just in Illinois.

My family follows the 3-day rule. My dad likes to say "company and fish both stink after 3 days."

Doesn't it make you wish they had summer camp for adults?

I'll be drinking for you. I mean, thinking of you.
  • No thanks. Sorry- sounds like hell

  • Ugh. You have all my sympathy. Three weeks is just too long for anyone. If I were you, I would have a really busy week at work and need to put in some extra hours.

At first I thought you meant Illinois too.

Sorry about the IL frustrations. I have pretty great ILs, but usually my max is 2 days.
  • I thought you were talking about Illinois.
  • I also thought this thread was in reference to Illinois..
