Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

How long did it take for your cycle to regulate again?

Last night I got my second period after my loss. It came 5 weeks and 2 days after the first AF. So far it's incredibly heavy (like the last AF) and quite painful which I'm not used to. My first AF came 7 weeks after my mc. I bleed almost continuously for the first 6 weeks after my D&C and then had a break for one week and then got AF. That AF was really heavy but I didn't get any cramps at all. This one is just as heavy and I'm also having quite bad cramps with it. In fact I've had cramps on and off for the past 2 weeks. It got to the point where I thought I might actually be pregnant again (took a test, BFN) because cramps were my first symptom with my last pregnancy. Anyway what I'm getting at is, how long did it take for your cycle to regulate after your mc? My cycle before was always like clockwork every 30 days, hardly any cramps and only lasted for 2 or 3 days so I really hope it's not going to be heavy and all over the place from now on. DH and I are actually quite keen to TTC again but these crazy cycles are doing my head in. Can anyone shed some light?

Re: How long did it take for your cycle to regulate again?

  • Not much help here. On average I've heard about 3 cycles but I don't know if there's any merit to that. Some women's cycles never regulate and some are perfectly back to normal on cycle 1. I don't have enough personal experience as I only had 2 full cycles following my first miscarriage and now am on my first cycle following my second miscarriage. With the way my cycles were going though I would guess I would have been back to my "normal" on my 3rd or 4th AF.

  • Unfortunately, whatever your period was like pre-pregnancy has no baring on what it will be like now. After any pregnancy your cycles can (but don't always) change quite drastically. Your PMS symptoms can be different, your cycle length can change, spotting can get better/worse. There's no telling. Hopefully it will at least regulate and not be so unpredictable soon.

Also, if you've never tried temping you might look in to it.

Thanks guys. I guess I can deal with my period being heavier and/or longer from now on but it's the unpredictability that really gets me  X(

EDIT: Just wanted to add @EllyD14 I have seriously been thinking about temping, I've never tried it and will probably just need to do a bit more research before I do. I thought I could always tell when I was ovulating by my CM but maybe not.
