***** GTKY & YK's Evening Edition *****

So, I think I missed this one last week altogether.  I remembered today, but I'm totally late.  DH and I took our little man for a day trip to the beach.  Just got back and am so tired!  But we had a great day.  Anyway, here's our GTKY for the week :)

How did you meet your husband/partner?
Did you know right away he was "the one"?

  • How did you meet your husband/partner?  through a mutual friend in college
Did you know right away he was "the one"? nope we had a rocky start! we finally learned the art of compromise.
Where was your first date? no idea. not sure we had a real first date. we hung out for awhile with friends then hung out by ourselves probably at my place.

What does their bedtime routine look like? just a warning that it's going to be bedtime soon, then we do the bathroom brush your teeth etc, then we have "talk time" where he can tell me or ask me anything he wants, a hug and kiss and sleep.
Will your LO's sleep anywhere, or do they have to be in their own bed? anywhere.

  • I met EH through a mutual friend. I knew pretty quickly he was the one. We went to eat and play putt putt for our first date.

Bedtime during the summer is 9 pm (8:30 during school). We do bath, meds, bedtime snack and then wind down time. DD will sometimes sleep other places. It depends on her exhaustion level.

Did you know right away he was "the one"? Hell no.
Where was your first date? He came out to visit, and my father had a stroke that same day, so rather than bail on H, I asked him if he wanted to come "meet" my Dad in the hospital lol- we had pizza across the street right after that. He always talks about how we ordered a large pizza, and I gave him 2 slices on a plate and ate the rest of the pizza myself. He tells everyone thats how he knew I was "His girl" LOL because I had no shame taking down an entire pizza on our first "date" - I am laughing thinking about this shit now.

Will your LO's sleep anywhere, or do they have to be in their own bed? She's been in her own crib/bed in her own room since she was 2 months own. She won't sleep anywhere else.

  • Me: DH was working in a research office in the building where I was a student receptionist at our college. He was in doc school and I was a lame undergrad. He was so hot I was sure he was married, and I had a boyfriend anyway so I just had a crush on him and never talked to him. Then the custodian told me he was pretty friendly so my boss and I decided to make him talk. I ran into him at the bar the night after I broke up with my boyfriend and we talked all night. We've been together ever since. I don't remember thinking "oh he's the one!" but I do remember feeling like the relationship was too good to be true- I couldn't believe such a smart, attractive, mature guy wanted to be with me. Our first "real" date was dinner and a movie, but the first planned meeting was at my house- he came over and we watched Mean Girls and my cousin decided to join us so it was more hanging out than a date.

DS: his routine is the same as it's been since he was born. Dinner, bath, books, and sleep. He does get a little playtime after dinner now that he isn't always covered in whatever we ate. :) He'll sleep pretty much anywhere a long as he has his bear, but he prefers his bed (and prefers daddy to be there with him). It's a step up from the year or so that he would only sleep on top of one of us. Poor kid and his self-regulation issues. I'm glad we ditched cry-it-out after one try. It would have been abusive in our case to keep that up.
  • Oh and bed time- he goes down about 8.
  • How did you meet your husband/partner?  We both got dragged to a party we didn't want to go to by friends
Did you know right away he was "the one"? No, but apparently he did :)
Where was your first date? A local restaurant down town, coffee and a movie.  Second date was more interesting though. Hiking and thai food, and discovering our mutual love of mocking strangers.

  • DH and I met at a job in college.  We both worked at a company that did an after school science program for kids.  It was fun, we made slime and built rockets and played with dry ice.  We didn't know right away, but I do remember the first moment I saw him, so I guess a part of me knew deep down.  We talked and were friends for a while before any dating, but for the first official date I made him dinner, then we went to a local outdoor mall and walked around till late at night.  At the time, he lived over an hour and I lived about half an hour away from this mall, so it was a novelty to go there.  Now, we live about five minutes from it and I go there ALL. THE. TIME.

DS doesn't have a specific bedtime, it kind of depends on the day.  But he usually goes down somewhere between 8 and 9.  DH does bath time and reads to him during bath time.  They read things like Around the World in 80 Days and Moby Dick and Time Machine.  It's more for the sake f reading than it is for the story at this point since DS is only a year and a half, lol.  But after bath time is over, I go up and DS pulls a bunch of his books off his shelf and we read them as a family for a while.  Then we clean up, pray and bedtime.  It's cozy.  As far as where he sleeps, as long as we do something close to bedtime routine and we are out of site once we put him down, he'll sleep.  He will also fall asleep in the car.  But he won't sleep if there's activity around.  He's too distracted.

  • How did you meet your husband/partner?  online- he was looking for another woman to play on his volleyball team and I was looking for another team to play on.  We started chatting about that and then discovered we were interested in more than that.
Did you know right away he was "the one"? I knew pretty quickly on- I'd say within the first week or so.
Where was your first date? We met up and played volleyball, then went to dinner at Chili's, then went to see Blades of Glory, then he came back to my place to watch Survivor and Amazing Race.  It ended up being a 13 hour date....

Do you have a specific bedtime for your kids? We usually start the bedtime routine between 6:30 and 7:00 and want her in bed by 7:30.
What does their bedtime routine look like? We brush her teeth, give her a bath, read 3 bedtime stories and then its time for bed.  She usually entertains herself for a while in her crib before falling asleep.
Will your LO's sleep anywhere, or do they have to be in their own bed? I'm not sure... we've only tried having her sleep somewhere else once.  She slept in a pack-n-play when we went to visit DH's grandma.  She did ok, but it wasn't a great night of sleep.  Aside from that, she has only slept in her crib since she was born.  She never even slept in the pack-n-play in our room when she was a newborn like we had planned, so we moved her right to her crib.  We will be trying to transition her to her "big girl" bed soon, so hopefully that will go well.

Did you know right away he was "the one"?  No,  I had been married before and lost my first husband (he passed away at the age of 29).  I truly thought I would be alone forever.
Where was your first date?  Watching a Bengals game at BW3s WHO-DEY!!!

What does their bedtime routine look like?  Lots of crying, tears and well pretty horrible!
Will your LO's sleep anywhere, or do they have to be in their own bed?  We co-sleep now, it just makes things easier.  It is not great and I wish we wouldn't have started.  He will sleep in the car and his bed at grandparents.

  • How did you meet your husband/partner? -We volunteered at the same fire department and got assigned to the same bingo fundraising team.

Did you know right away he was "the one"? - Heck no.  I told him for months that I wouldn't even date him, too young for me.  He did eventually just wait me out.  I mean what woman knows what they really want anyway?

Where was your first date? - I don't know that we really had a first one.  I guess I'd count the day he brought over the top 1' from a pine tree because I was protesting Christmas.  He brought it in a coffee can.  Told me he would come back and if I didn't hang any ornaments on it he was going to put 10' of lights on it for me.

Do you have a specific bedtime for your kids? - DD is 2, she goes down around 7:30-8:00

What does their bedtime routine look like? - Read two or three books, sing 3 songs or so.  Kiss other parent goodnight, go to the potty, then get in bed.  Then of course I put her back in bed...  and then back in bed... and maybe back in bed one more time.  Tears may or may not happen.

Will your LO's sleep anywhere, or do they have to be in their own bed? - DD will sleep just about anywhere if she is sleepy.  If she isn't too sleepy, her bed is the only chance.

  • How did you meet your husband/partner?  We met online, and then quickly met in person.
Did you know right away he was "the one"?  NO. I liked him, but it was a slow simmer to a boil for me... he was all in after the first date though (although he was pretty chill about it... he only admitted that well after the fact).
Where was your first date?   at a Bahama Breeze

Do you have a specific bedtime for your kids? We try to start the bath routine around 7:30, 7:45.  He's usually in bed by about 8:30, 9:00.
What does their bedtime routine look like? Bath or shower (he loves to shower with Daddy), then jammies/teeth brushed, then a Disney Junior in our bed with us, then off to his room for 2-3 books, hugs/kisses/I love you's, lights out
Will your LO's sleep anywhere, or do they have to be in their own bed?  He can fall asleep anywhere, but he sleeps longer/better in his own bed.
