Car ride for 6hrs

Has anyone taken their LO on a long car ride and if so how did it go? Any tips or tricks to keep LO from having a major meltdown? Lol

Re: Car ride for 6hrs

  • I know there are several Momma's who have, so I'm sure they will respond when they can. We avoided a 13 hour car ride by flying...The most we've done is 2 hours and it was only saved by snacks and his fave cartoons on the ipad hooked onto the back of my seat!! GL!

  • The longest we do is about 4.5 hours. DD does pretty good. She will sleep a bit, then play with small toys. We are getting ready to do it on Wednesday, I have some Barney for her to watch this time. She's not really into watching but likes the music.

  • We just got back from an 8-9hr drive last week. It was okay. Snack definitely helped. DD is still addicted to my boobs but she was pretty distracted by SD so it wasn't too bad, just normal stopping. She ended up liking empty water bottles the most so she could practice with the cap.

  • Overnight diapers, DVD player, toys and a break with a walk every few hours.
  • We just drove 5 hours and she did great. Slept some but the life saver is we had a portable dvd player and she watched Frozen and lots of snacks.

  • We're planning a 4.5 [to 7 hours depending on traffic :/ it's bad around here] drive probably in November and I'm dreading it just a little bit! My parents will be with us and I'm hoping they have a new/fun sort of appeal [she hasn't seen them since she was 5 months old] that helps keep her entertained. We'll also probably stop at least once halfway through.
  • Update on car ride- left at 9am and DS fell right asleep but woke up a half an hour later. He was good though the next 2 hrs just playing with toys and snacking. We stopped after 2 1/2 hrs and he walked around for 30 mins. The back on the road again and he was pissed. Finally fell asleep for 30 mins and was upset the rest of the ride :(
Overall though I think it could've have been way worse.
