Shower Hostess Gifts

I assume getting the shower hostess a gift is a thing that people do. In my case, I think it's extra important since my friend is throwing my shower at her mother's house (it's just more convenient). Her mom is reportedly thrilled to have the shower at her home, but I don't know her very well, so I feel like I should get her something extra nice. However, I don't even have a frame of reference for typical hostess gifts for a baby shower. What is everyone getting their hostess?

Re: Shower Hostess Gifts

  • I don't remember what I did for my friend who hosted my baby shower with DS, but I would think a gift card (like Amazon or Starbucks or nice restaurant) and a card would be sufficient. For moms, sisters, and MILs who are hosting, something "grandma" or "aunt" related seems appropriate. :)

  • I've been thinking about this too. I can't figure out what is appropriate to spend on said gift?

  • I typically give some type of food (ie, nice chocolate) or other consumable that I know that the hostess will like.

  • MIL and FIL threw is a baby shower last weekend, and since they're totally not the 'bottle of wine' type people...we brought them a 24 pack of their favorite Wisconsin beer. Win win, since we got to have some too ;)

Had it been anyone else, I would have done something more formal like wine or chocolate or a "grandma" item, like PPs said.

  • I didn't realize this was proper etiquette for my bridal showers. Whoopsies. But was just made aware of it and will be giving gifts. I agree with PPs that a grandma or aunt gift would be nice.

  • My sis gave her shower hostesses cute umbrellas and chocolate.. I'm planning on maybe some inexpensive bath gels and lotions and chocolate, you know, to keep with the shower theme. ;)

  • My mom and MIL hosted my baby shower for DD, and I got them each a bouquet of flowers and the little girl Pandora bracelet charm.  I feel like I might have also gotten each of them a GC for a pedicure, but I can't remember.

I did this for my bridesmaids to thank them for my bridal shower.

  • Oooh I like the Pandora bead idea, especially since my Mom & MIL have everything.  MIL already has a grandma charm, but that could work for my mom.  I was planning on getting them each a Vera Bradley Bag OR Coach bag, but hadn't yet decided.  (They have both spent lots of money on this little one's gifts, and that doesn't begin to touch what the shower will cost them, so I want to get them something somewhat substantial to say Thanks.)

Do you know if it's a boy or a girl?  I went with the little girl charm for my mom and MIL since I already knew they were getting a granddaughter.  If your MIL already had a grandma charm, getting the little boy or girl might be a cute alternative.

  • OP: I would think a nice card, and gift card to a favorite store would work.

So here's my question: My MIL and my SD (7 years old) are "hosting." I want to get SD something as a thank you, but I also don't want to make it tooo baby related, since we're working hard to make sure she doesn't feel replaced by the new baby. What would you do in that situation?

My mom, sister and possibly god mother are throwing my baby shower. Luckily they all love wine, so I think I'll go with that for gifts! :)

  • I'm getting a glass pitcher with a wooden spoon and a packet of lemonade mix. I'll tie a ribbon around it and voila!

If your hostesses like wine, a bottle of their favorite type wrapped in a cute dish towel is a great idea.

  • My shower was hosted by my Mom and MIL. We bought them each a piece of jewelry... my Mom got a necklace and my MIL got a charm which she collects. We spent less than $200 for both.
  • I gave my sister a bottle of wine and a gc to her favorite clothing store.

A manicure gc always seems to be appreciated, too.

  • I'm with @DaniGrace89‌. I had no idea this was proper etiquette. Luckily the same friend who threw my bridal shower is throwing the baby shower - so I have a chance to make that right. :)
