Nursery Construction...

Tomorrow's the big day!  Cleaned out the nursery last weekend; tomorrow the hubs will pull up carpet and yank out existing dry wall.  Demolition this weekend and hopefully reconstruction next weekend!  I'm so excited!! :D

  • Awesome!! We are painting and laying new floors too. We are going get our baby furniture tomorrow and I am so excited!!
  • It's hard but I've managed to make myself wait on the furniture!  I want the construction complete first!
  • I thought about closet organizing, but not sure how or what I want to do yet.  But with DS, I didn't have anything but the rod and a top shelf, so things just seemed to pile at the bottom on the floor!
  • Have fun ladies! I'm still debating my theme... Post your pictures, I love good ideas. As for closet organizers, I second ikea, they are so easy to install and make life easier.
  • Yay! We emptied the guest bedroom after our first appointment. DH painted the room last night a nice light gray. I can't wait to start filling it up with furniture!

  • I want so badly to go ahead and order the furniture I picked out but we have a lot of rearranging to do first lol. Right now the room is an office/ kickboxing room. Office is being moved to the dining room and kickboxing is going to the garage. Not to mention DH uses that closet. UGH I don't want to clean!!!!

  • Last weekend DH finished cleaning out the room that is to become LO's room.  We have decided on a paint color and theme. Now we just have to go shopping.

I want to put in a closet system, but DH is a little hesitant. He thinks we should make do with what we have and improve the closet later. All there is in it is a rod, not much shelving.  I have seen a couple systems that will work for several years and cost less than $200.  We'll see....

  • Well we started on the demolition...not as easy as we originally thought :(.  Did get all the drywall pulled out, next step is pulling up carpet.
  • We moved into our house last year. We knew that one of the bedrooms would eventually be a nursery, so we went ahead and did all our painting, quarter-round installation and major work way back then.

In the meantime, we are trying to get rid of all the extra furniture in there. I already started cleaning out the closet in there. H was using it for his clothes, but I realized we could combine our wardrobes into the one closet in our bedroom, so I already did all that.

We have one or two pieces of furniture that could stand to be painted. We'll probably work on that in the early fall. It is WAY too hot here to be outside doing any painting.

So exciting!  We have the paint, just haven't started putting it up yet.  Maybe we'll finally get around to it this weekend.  We also started emptying out the nursery of the office stuff and are planning to do a trip to Good Will this weekend as well.  It makes it feel so real putting it all together.

Have any of you considered putting closet organizers in?  Right now we just have the basic rod across and a few shelves that are up high, but I was looking online and was thinking Ikea had cheaper organizer systems that I might want to give a try.  And they seem super easy to install.  Has anyone else thought of doing this and found something they like?
For DD's room I figured out the rod and shelving configuration that I wanted and DH built it one weekend. She has a long narrow wall closet (not walk-in). The guest room we are turning into the new baby's room has a very odd shaped closet and I have no idea what to do with it.

  • Oh man we have sooooo much to do... Baby is going to have DS' room, so DS is moving to the spare room.  So all the spare room stuff has to get moved downstairs to the bedroom down there.  So all the stuff (and there's a ton of shit in there) in the bedroom downstairs needs to get moved to the storage room.  So the storage room needs to get cleaned out.

    I don't wanna.

  • We found out Sunday morning after the gym that my in-laws had brought up the crib from my sister-in-law in MD and wanted to bring it over.  We had been procrastinating on cleaning out our office, which is becoming the guest room, and moving the guest room furniture to make way for the baby furniture.  So we got home, moved some things around, dismantled the guest bed, and made way for the crib, which we put back together in the afternoon.  Then I worked on laundry and DH continued to work on cleaning out the office to make room for things.  He's got years of old paperwork, computer parts, role-playing books, etc stashed in there.

Seeing that crib constructed brought it all home - there's going to be a tiny person sleeping in that who will depend on us for everything in just a few months!
