High-Risk Pregnancy

Has any one had experience with levated S/D level and placental resistance?

Hi ladies - I'm almost 28 weeks and just finished an appt with my MFM (being followed due to shortening cervix). My cervix measurements look good (yay!) but she said today that the S/D (systolic to diastolic) ratio was slightly but consistently elevated.  She couldn't tell me what that could mean clinically, and I'm trying to avoid Dr. Google, but for now it is something to watch. I go back in a few weeks for another check, and she said take it easy and watch for swelling. I'm assuming this could have something to do with risk factors for pre-e?  She said also that it can affect baby's growth, but right now my bean is measuring just over a week ahead and almost 3 lbs.

Has anyone had any experience with this? What else do I need to look out for? Is there anything else I should be doing?

  • So, I review all my ultrasound reports because I'm neurotic. What was your S/D ratio? At 28 weeks mine was 3.3 which I did research and after 30 weeks over a 3 is a sign of possible IUGR. But before 28 weeks I didn't think they even considered it much more than a measurement.

The Dr. said it was consistently above 3.0 - I think it ranged from about 3.1-3.4 in the 5-6 times she took it. I think (I'm a little fuzzy), that they want it to be below 3.0 at 28 weeks (maybe 2.7 is the average for that gestational age?). I go back in 3 weeks, so I guess I'll learn more then. Thank you for your response!
