Bottle size

I have been using avent 4oz bottles and just bought some in the next size up at 9oz, but they seem HUGE. My question is how long will LO be in the small bottles? I'm thinking I should just return the 9oz and get more 4oz... Am I right in thinking we won't need the big ones for awhile yet?

Re: Bottle size

  • DS was eating 5 oz and had graduated to the bigger bottles by the time he was a month old.

  • Keep the big ones. LO is just about 5 weeks and starting to take 5oz at some feedings. I'm about to go out and buy some larger bottles this weekend!
  • DS is 5 weeks and takes 5 oz so we already have no use for the smaller ones,

Keep the big ones. You can still use them for smaller amounts of formula and you will end up getting a lot more use out of them than the small ones. It won't be too much longer before baby is eating more than 4 oz at a time.

  • We only bought the 9 oz ones and have just used those and put smaller amounts in them.  It seemed more practical to invest in these bottles that we can use longer instead of buying smaller and then having to buy larger ones.
  • I don't remember when ds1 started using the bigger bottles but we used them s lot longer than we did the little ones. DS2 is still using the little bottles. If he is still hungry, we just make 2 more ounces

This. We use the 8 oz. bottles from Dr. Browns. Even when she was only drinking 2 oz., we used the big bottles. I didn't want to buy 2 sets of bottles, it's never bothered me. When she was older, DD1 drank 8 oz. bottles, so I would keep the big ones.

  • LO is 6wks today and between 4-5wks he was drinking between 4-5oz so he's in the big bottles.
