if you could only hear one band/singer/artist for the rest of your life, what would it be? (note: not continuously, just whenever you wanted to listen to music)
what is one food that you really dislike?
do you like seafood? what's your favorite seafood meal?
Peanut butter or Jelly? I love a good PBJ (it's what's for lunch today), but if I had to pick just one, seedless strawberry jam.
Favorite ice cream flavor? I'm pretty equal opportunity when it comes to ice cream. I could live off it. But, if I had to pick....cake batter with brownie, caramel, and fudge from Cold Stone. For the stuff you buy in the store and bring home, I like Bear Claw, Mackinaw Island Fudge, cookie dough, and mint chocolate chip (all chocolate bits must be melt-in-your mouth, not waxy). I can't pick just one.
Dream car, new and classic? Oooh. Hm. My parents are really into classic cars and trucks, and they already own a ton of classic trucks. I really like the expensive cars, like Duesenbergs, from the 20's and 30's. I like old Model As. I like '66/'67 GTOs (my mom's is a '68, I don't like it as well).
New....Honestly? I want a new Chrystler Town and Country Mini Van.
What did you eat for breakfast? I had two granola bars, cinnamon and peanut butter chocolate chip. That's my standard work breakfast. What is your favorite beer?
Lighter beer would be Bell's Oberon, darker beer would either be Founder's Breakfast Stout or Atwater's Vanilla Java Porter. Do you think Nathan Fillion is sexy? Is this even a question?!?!?!
Who would your celebrity BFF be and why? Probably Jennifer Garner, she seems really down to earth and normal. I'd also WANT Jennifer Lawrence or Tina Fey, but I don't think I'm cool enough for funny enough. Favorite book? The Harry Potter series, but I could read Anne of Green Gables over and over. I'm also a fan of Tana French's first two books (In the Woods and The Likeness). One thing you think most people don't realize about you?
That I am more impatient than people think and I have lower self esteem than they think. I'm pretty good at coming across as confident and patient. You have to when you have a job dealing with people! What trait do you really admire in others? Self confidenceand the ability to speak their mind instead of trying to pick words carefully so you don't hurt feelings.
Who would play you in a movie? (regular movie, not lifetime - I'm sure someone else will ask you that one) I'll go with Jennifer Garner again on this one, probably for the same reasons--her personality seems most like mine than other favorite actresses.
Which of the Indiana Jones movies is your favorite? Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, duh. Who doesn't want Shia LeBeouf and aliens? I'm kidding. DH and I were talking about that movie the other day, actually. The other three are all pretty good--cheesy, yes, but fun. I most remember Temple of Doom and the monkey brains from my childhood, Last Crusade has Sean Connery, and Raiders of the Lost Ark is probably the most classic. I'll go with Lost Ark.
Which group did you hang with in high school? The nerds. I wasn't an athlete or a cool kid, or even an in between one. It was definitely the least popular group my freshman year at the private Catholic school I went to; but still a nerdy crowd at the public high school I transferred to.
What songs could you listen to over and over and not get sick of?
@Rach521 if you could only hear one band/singer/artist
for the rest of your life, what would it be? (note: not continuously,
just whenever you wanted to listen to music)
I'll combine these two. My two favorite are probably Simon and Garfunkel and Jason Mraz. I could listen to their music, and only their music, forever and be pretty happy. Particular songs? I Won't Give Up and Lucky from Jason Mraz, and Cecelia by Simon and Garfunkel.
A close third would be Adele, especially since my 3 year old is obsessed with Rumor Has it. I can't tell you how many times I've heard that song and I'm surprisingly not sick of it.
coffee, tea, or soda? Coffee, by a long shot. I can take or leave POP, and really don't care for tea.
Favorite Quotes? Hm. There are a lot of quotes I *like*, but I don't really keep a collection of favorites, so couldn't just pull one out of the air and say THIS IS MY FAVORITE! I'd have to search through famous quotes and find a bunch I really like.
what is one food that you really dislike?
do you like seafood? what's your favorite seafood meal? The answer to your first question will answer the other two. I really dislike seafood. UGGHHHHHH gross. I don't even like looking at most seafood, like crab, lobster, shrimp. The only things I'll eat are canned tuna and those thin, fried, breaded fish patties.
Favorite local tourist attraction? Edit, because I forgot this. Locally, we have a lot of yummy breweries, if you were doing a beer tour Statewide, there are a lot of cool things like Mackinaw Island and the Sleeping Bear Dunes.
What colors are the walls where you live? (Different colors or all the same?) Most of the rooms in the main areas are these colors: https://www.olympic.com/color/collections/welcome Weeping Willow in the office, Secret Passage in the dining room, Almond Paste in the hall and living room, Snowy Mount for trim. The kitchen is a dark red, though.
Guilty pleasure food, tv show, book and thing to do? Food: pizza or super cheesy Mexican food. TV show: Firefly and old episodes of the shows I watched growing up, like Full House. Book: Harry Potter! Thing to do: long, hot baths. Which I can't do, because our tub is tiny
There's a Mackinaw Island Fudge ice cream??? Seriously need to get me some of that... I wonder if I can order it online. It's SOOOO good!!
How
mad/sad were you when Firefly was canceled? Did you sign the
petition/join the Bring Back Firefly group (I think it was a MySpace
page...)? I actually didn't discover Firefly until AFTER it was cancelled I definitely would have petitioned and joined, though!
(eta: I meant to say sad, but I was a bit mad too so they both fit)
Are you a morning or night person? More of a morning person. I don't like getting up at 6 am, but I'm surprisingly pleasant and chipper before my first cup of coffee; I also enjoy watching the sun rise, so if I had to pick, definitely mornings.
Were you in any clubs in high school, if so, which ones? Spanish Club. I was also in NHS and the Co-Op group (I worked in our library my senior year). In college, I was the president of the Geography Club. :-B
What was the best decade of the 20th century and why? All have their positives and negatives, obviously. I'm going to copy @JordyInIndy's answer for this one and say the 20's because I love the clothing, hair styles, attitudes, etc. I also like the clothing of the Mad Men 60's.
Ahhh!! I love Tana French!! Also, I am developing a girl crush on you . I'm living your answers - minus the seafood one, but I guess I could just eat your portion, no?
Zehnder's or Bavarian Inn? Honestly, it's a toss up. I like them both, and have eaten at and enjoyed both places. The problem, though, is I get them confused in my head, so I don't know which one I went to for a wedding, for a baby shower, for a GTG, etc.
My now go-to:
You're given the opportunity to invade someone's body for 24 hours. This is happening in 2014, so there is no time travel involved. You will have full control over all movement and decisions of this person. When you leave after your 24 hours, any decisions you've made will be permanent. Who do you invade and what decisions do you make for them? The first thing that pops into my head is to invade some wealthy person's body and have them be a benefactor for the library where I work and have them give us $50 million dollars for a new, modern library. I know there are other people I could invade and have them do things that would impact so many more people, but I'll just go with my first though. Or, Bill Gates and have him donate some of his trillions to multiple university libraries that need upgrades.
You're alone in your house. Time to crank up the music you only listen to alone-the stuff you'd be embarrassed for others to know you like. What's playing?
What were you likd in high school? Quiet? Obnoxious? Super outgoing? smarty pants?? I was quiet and a smarty pants. I was very awkward, felt left out of a lot of things, and was in the National Honor Society.
Do you want more kids any time soon? I say the door is closed but not locked on another kid. If I could guarantee a third would have the disposition DS2 and IF we had a bigger house and made more money, I'd love a third. We are fine, monetarily, with two kids, but a third would really strain things. We are happy with two, though.
You're alone in your house. Time to crank up the music you only listen to alone-the stuff you'd be embarrassed for others to know you like. What's playing? Maybe not so much embarrassing, but I used to belly dance, so I'd turn on Pentaphobe or Beats Antique or something similar and get my shimmy on.
Firefly, what other Whedon titles are you a fan of? Uh, everything. Dr. Horrible, Dollhouse, Avengers, and did you know he did Toy Story?!?! (Thanks to DS, I've seen that movie, quite literally, about 100 times) I've never really seen, so haven't gotten into, Angel and Buffy.
If you could go back in time what would you tell nerdy freshman firefly? That being a nerd will eventually be pretty cool, so don't worry about it. Oh, and tweeze your eyebrows, it goes a LONG way.
Favorite candle scent? The poisonous, chemical-laden Marshmallow Fireside from Bath & Body Works. What are you passionate about? This is where I think I'm not very exciting. I wouldn't really describe myself as passionate about any one thing (other than my family and kids, obviously). There are things I really like (food, reading, travel), things I feel strongly about (mostly hot button topics that come up here like vaccinations and moms who want their kids to be born early), topics that really interest me (light pollution, weather), and causes I support (instilling a love of reading at a young age, March of Dimes). I don't really describe myself in extreme terms like that, though, either positive ones or negative ones.
Creamy or crunchy peanut butter? Creamy. I'm weird about what I like chunks in.
Are you liberal? Conservative? Somewhere in the middle? Right down the middle, just like I am with all the polls that try to find out what side you are on. Liberal about some issues, conservative about others, in the middle on others.
I don't think I knew you were in Michigan! Sleeping Bear Dunes are one of my favorite places in the world!
Yup, I'm from the SW part of the state!
Favorite pizza topping?
Pepperoni and lots and lots of cheese (I'm on a dairy-free diet right now and these pizza and ice cream questions are killing me)
If you had free plane tickets to anywhere in the world, where would you go and who would you take with you?
I'd take my H, of course! We'd either go to Seattle, our favorite spot in the US, or we'd travel to England/Scotland/Ireland.
What's your favorite thing about your job? Least favorite thing? I like the environment (a library!) and what I do--being a librarian was my dream job growing up, so I'm glad that I've got the degree and work in a library, just not as an official librarian. I like that we get some down time, but that's also my least favorite thing. Part of our downtime is because we are short a staff member, so there's a lot of big projects to do, but we don't want to get involved in them when it's just the two of us, so that leaves a lot of quiet time.
Does money that goes through the laundry belong to the person doing the laundry or to the person who put it in the laundry? You are in charge of emptying your pockets before the clothes go into the basket, so if you lose money or if the garage door opener gets washed, that's your fault.
Do you believe in ghosts? What about UFOs and/or aliens? I don't believe in ghosts or anything supernatural, but I do believe there is other life out there in the universe. I can't imagine we are IT in this great expanse we are just a teeny tiny part of. Have they visited earth? No, probably not. Kind of like my views on religion, I think people have seen something unexplainable and said UFO! Also, a peeve (not at you, just in general)--UFO, UNIDENTIFIED flying object. That doesn't mean alien. It means you don't know what it is.
Who on F14 has surprised you the most? There are definitely a couple people! The first that jumped to mind, though, is the untaggable car seat (not even going to try tagging...). I was intimidated by her--not that I thought she was mean or anything, but because she's always so well spoken and thought out, isn't afraid to call someone on their shit, and knows her stuff. She's still all that, but I'm not intimidated anymore. Does that make sense as far as being surprised goes??
Tell us something that f14 may not know about you? Nothing super exciting, but I'm an only child, but I went to an IHDC from the time I was 5 or 6 months old until I was 12. (IHDC was WWAAAAAAYYYY different back then from what I'm hearing now!) She is my second mom and I'm still close with her kids and some of the other kids she watched long term. They are my "sisters" and I wish I got to see them more often!
F14 crush? I have lots of F14 crushes! @wxcyclonechick is one of them because, in answer to your second question, something meteorology or climatolgy related would be one of my other dream jobs. I wish I hadn't let differential equations and linear algebra scare me! Other than a librarian, what would be your dream job if money didn't matter.
Favorite and least favorite childhood memories? Least favorite - Ack, I was so awkward and self-conscious and shy. My least favorite was on the first day of freshman year, we were in orientation. I had my period at the time and was too scared (not really the right word, but the only one popping into my head) to get up and go to the bathroom since I was about as far away from the door as you can get. You can imagine what happened...I wore my coat around my waist the rest of the day. I don't know if anyone noticed or not.
Favorite--I have lots of good memories! My parents liked to travel around MI in the summer, just us, so I have lots of great memories of that. My parents are really awesome.
Favorite color of wood? (I asked because I hate the wood in my house)
I really like deep, dark, rich woods. Mahogony, for example. I would love to have a gorgeous library with lots of that kind of wood and big plush chairs.
What's the biggest adventure you've been on? Probably the trips I've taken out of the country. I'm not really adventurous, so they weren't hiking adventures or traveling around staying in hostels, but they were fun tours. I went to Spain (Spanish Club!), Mexico, and England/Scotland/Ireland.
Is your LO named after anyone? Yes, his middle name is my maternal grandfather's name. DH and I agreed we'd honor one of my grandparents in some way since DS1's name is in honor of his maternal grandfather (well, mostly middle name. It just so happened that our favorite first name is a sometimes nickname of his grandfather's name, so DS1 also got his unique middle name).
Favorite Disney Movie and why?
Now that Disney owns Star Wars, I'm going to go with that! Why? Because it's pure awesome. They better not eff up the new movies. Old Harrison Ford better not stink it up like the newest Indiana Jones movie; and Old Mark Hamill better loose some weight unless he's planning to be Jabba.
The cartoons are good. I liked Lion King growing up (because Simba was cute) and I like Brave because it's nice to have a strong female character. If you could change anything about the world, what would it be? I want world peace and to put an end to hunger! While this is true, I had to answer in relation to your pageant question. Favorite joke?
I'm not really a joke person, they mostly make me roll my eyes (and I pretty much hate stand up comedians) but I love hilarious websites. I just discovered https://textastrophe.com/ and had tears running down my face. If you were in a pageant, what would you do for the talent portion? Umm...sew something? Bake something? I think I'm a pretty good baker, but I know that's not the most exciting talent to watch. Otherwise, I'd attempt belly dancing again.
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
We didn't do a big, extravagant honeymoon right after the wedding, but we did go up to Traverse City for wine tasting for a few days afterward. It was a nice, quiet, relaxing trip. About a year later, right before we started TTC the first time, we went to Washington State for a week. LOVE that place. What character trait of yours do you hope your children inherit from you
and YH? My husband is incredibly kind and giving. School always came easy for me, and I hope it does for them, too. What about ones that you hope they don't inherit?
My nail biting habit and his impatience. Also, as mentioned before, the lack of confidence in myself I had when I was younger. What drew you to working in a library as a girl? Now that you're doing
it, is it what you thought it would be? Does YH ever ask you to dress up
like a naughty librarian? I wanted to be a children's librarian--I loved doing the summer reading programs and our children's librarian was my hero. I wanted to be just like her. I work at an academic library, however, so it's very, very different than I thought. I'm not a librarian by job title, but in most academic libraries, you have to work toward tenure since you are faculty, so having to do presentations and be published is really intimidating and not something I thought I'd have to do. I've lost a lot of motivation to do that kind of thing since becoming a mom, so I don't know when I'll have the official title.
what was your first impression of YH? I liked him from the second I saw him. He worked with a friend of mine. I stopped in to visit one day and he immediately came across as smart, kind, and funny--and hot. Unfortunately, he wasn't available at the time!
if you could change one thing about your wedding day, what would it be and why? There was some family drama I didn't know about. It wasn't too major, but we did everything we could to keep the peace between MIL/sFIL and FIL/sMIL. Getting FIL to come was tough, so we promised him to keep people as separate as possible. Apparently, MIL was REALLY offended that we were trying to separate. Also, sFIL scolded my cousin who he'd just met for wearing his hat in church. The day actually went pretty smoothly! I might also change the humidity level in the air that day, though!
What would you name a cat whose markings look like a mustache? Selleck Do you like to paint your nails/toe nails? I do, but my nails look stupid with paint on them because they are always too short from me biting them or them ripping because they are thin and brittle, and I never have time to do my toenails anymore.
Are you working in a university library? Yes, I work in a university library.
What time do you get up in the morning? During the week, I get up at 6 am. Weekends, whenever the boys wake up, usually between 7 and 8.
What was the best part of your wedding day? The food was pretty damn good. One of the best things was that some of H's coworkers snuck into our hotel room and put out wine, filled up the hot tub, sprinkled the bed with petals, and I don't remember what else. It was really sweet of them!
3 F14 members you wished lived near you IRL@chiawombat, @rondakhiker, and @bookshelves (I really wish all of my favorite F14ers lived in a 2 hour driving radius)

But another question for you (haven't read all the way through so I hop it hasn't been asked):
Favorite scientific theory?
Favorite famous scientist?
Favorite element?
