Re: *6/27 Twin Mom Check In*

  • 1) What age are your little ones?
My girls are 4 weeks + 2 days. They'll be one month on Saturday, which I don't understand because I just had them! Time is already going too fast.

    2) Upcoming appts for you and/or the babies?
My PP appt is July 1st and their appt is first week in August (I should probably know the date, oops)

    3) Any updates to share?
Not much going on, just feeding ever 2-3 hours and nursing, pumping, supplementing all day erryday. They've finally reached about 6.5 lbs each, so they feel like tanks to me now! :) Scarlett was only 4.14 lbs when we brought her home. They are also (finally) out of preemie diapers! Woohoo!

    4) Go ahead and let it out - how are you REALLY doing?
I have mostly good days, though the bad ones tend to be bad (random crying and feeling of being completely overwhelmed). I've noticed the bad days correlate to lack of sleep. I've been having mommy guilt issues over stupid nursing/pumping/supplementing and I'm working on being kinder to myself. I'm so ready to be able to work out... with IVF and pregnancy I haven't been able to do much and I'd like to get back to my normal summer activities!

    5) Any questions, insight or tips for other twin moms?
At what point will you stop waking the babies up to feed and just let them sleep through the night?

QOTD: We've taken the girls out since the second day we brought them home (under 1 week old). I just kept them snug in their stroller with a light blanket covering them and a death stare for anyone who got too close. I'm taking them to a company picnic on the 3rd and a little worried about having them around 50+ people though. I still plan on keeping them in their strollers but I guess I'll forgot the blankies and death stares :)

    1) 7 weeks + 3 days if you want to be specific. :D
    2) they have their 2 month appointment on (I think) July 10. Nervous for two fussy babies after all those vaccines! Thank god H is taking the afternoon off work to go with us. Man coverage yo.
    3) they are both doing well. Mumble has finally started really picking up her eating to where the pediatrician is happy with it. Tummy time is going great and I am amazed by how much more grown up they both seem. We are also working on deceloping nap time and bedtime routines. Aaaaah they are growing up so fast!
    4) I was diagnosed a few weeks ago with postpartum anxiety and postpartum OCD, which really caught me off guard. I spent so much time being vigilant for PPD that, although I knew PPA and PPOCD existed, it never really occurred to me that I'd be dealing with it. I've been working intensively with my therapist and things have become more tolerable and I'm better able to deal with it. I've been told to expect this to come up again throughout the first postpartum year but I'm hoping the crisis is past us.
    5) I can't think of any at the moment...I have no idea if things are going as they should or what, I'm just flying y the seat of my pants. I'm sure I'll think of some in the middle of the night though ;)
@katekat8721‌ I don't know...not until they are old enough to sleep through the night because H does the 6am feedings which really saves my sanity. I can't give it up.
QOTD: we took them out for the first time two days after Mumble came home, so when they were nearly 3 weeks old. We go out pretty regularly for a walk (aim for daily) and we wore them to a street fest and the Farmers Market last weekend. I've run quick errands I can walk to (like Walgreens) but haven't attempted a grocery run or shopping or anything. When I feel people are getting too close I give them the death glare, or like at the Farmers Market went to a corner and turned the stroller so people couldn't see them. I just wish people didn't see twins and think I must be dying to talk to them. Nope, you're just slowing down my very busy routine.

  • New moms:
    1) What age are your little ones?  3 weeks + 1 day.
    2) Upcoming appts for you and/or the babies?  I think I have a postpartum checkup on the 3rd, which confuses me because it will only be 4 weeks, not six.  The girls have a weight check on the 2nd.
    3) Any updates to share?  The twins are continuing to stay super close to each other's length and weight.  They were unofficially weighed at an appt the other day (with clothes + diaper on) and they were the exact same!  I was given the OK to let them sleep at night because they were over birth weight, but at least one is up every 3-4 hours (and we do one up, both up).  I have been almost exclusively tandem breastfeeding, but this week we introduced a bottle so DH can take one nighttime feeding and I can go to bed earlier.  That has been going great!  I just am having trouble pumping for that feeding since I am pretty regulated to their EBF needs, so I will probably just do formula for the one feeding.
    4) Go ahead and let it out - how are you REALLY doing?  I am actually doing pretty well.  I am tired (who isn't!) but we are settling into a sort of routine with my mom helping out with the big kids.  They go to her house a bit more than I would like during the week, but the "quiet" time alone with the twins is nice too.  I have been surprisingly un-emotional.  I haven't had any sort of crying breakdowns (or really cried at all) since they were born, so I am just waiting for that one to happen :-).
    5) Any questions, insight or tips for other twin moms?  Well, they haven't had a good poop in 24 hours; anyone have any tips to make that happen?  At what point do you call the ped?  I know my son used to poop like every other day, but I don't remember if he was this little.
QOTD: I took them out to my hairdresser's the other day because I love her and wanted to take them somewhere to meet people.  We have taken them to my parents' a few times and the doctor's of course.  Oh and to a random chocolate store where all the old ladies in the back came out and fussed over them :-).  I want to take them to church on Sunday, but I am afraid well-meaning people will try to touch them, and it is harder to wear two and watch two bigger kids.

  • Apologies for formatting and spelling as I'm on mobile.... Hi all! Our boys arrived on June 10. Sorry I haven't been around as things have been VERY hectic and I'm finally feeling mostly recovered after my c-section. New moms: 1) What age are your little ones? 2 weeks, 3 days 2) Upcoming appts for you and/or the babies? The boys have their one month appointment on July 10 and I have my postpartum appointment on July 18. 3) Any updates to share? The boys are doing very well and are both up from their birth weights. It seems like they switch roles daily as to who is going to be fussy, lol. We are supplementing right now as I'm not producing enough breast milk when I pump but hop ohm my supply will improve now that I began taking supplements. 4) Go ahead and let it out - how are you REALLY doing? I definitely had a few rough days but yesterday and today seem to be going well. Figuring out how to feed them simultaneously was a big win for me. We've also had a huge amount of help from family which has been our saving grace. 5) Any questions, insight or tips for other twin moms? Amazon Mom is great for diapers, wipes, etc.!

  • 1) What age are your little ones?  Eight weeks and one day--coming up on a full two months soon!

    2) Upcoming appts for you and/or the babies?  Two month pediatrician appointment on July 11--we're finally going to get the girls on the same schedule.  Not looking forward to the vaccines though!

    3) Any updates to share?  Eva finally came home from the NICU last Tuesday.  We had to insist that they take her feeding tube out and let her eat on her schedule--the kid just wasn't getting hungry every 3 hours like they wanted her to.  Now that she's home, I'm good with that; we can often go 4-5 hours between feedings, which is awesome at night.  It's a relief to have everyone home, although I was really spoiled only having to take care of one at a time!

    4) Go ahead and let it out - how are you REALLY doing?  Hanging in there.  I would love it if DH would stay home for a while, but it's hard for him to totally disconnect from his job.  I'm trying to remind myself to be grateful that he enjoys it since I'm not going back to work, but since we don't have family close by I'd appreciate another pair of hands for a while.  The girls like to take turns so there's almost always someone crying...fortunately, most of the time it's not Mommy!  I'm really starting to seriously consider how long I'm going to be EPing.  I'm not in a hurry to switch the girls to formula, but they're having some significant issues with gas and it would be a relief to have a couple extra hours of my day back.  Still, I feel like since I never really had an opportunity to get BFing down, I should stick this out as long as possible.

    5) Any questions, insight or tips for other twin moms?  Anyone else have one baby that's a lot fussier than the other?  I feel like the calm one gets a lot less individual attention because I can throw her in a bassinet/RNP/crib while I deal with her sister's crying fits.

@katekat8721 our pediatrician told us to let them sleep as long as possible through the night as soon as Kate came home at 2 weeks old.  He said as long as they're gaining weight fine, there's no need to disturb their sleep, and it helps to get them used to sleeping longer through the night as soon as possible.

QOTW:  Since we had one in the hospital for almost 5 weeks after her sister came home, we got used to taking her out on a daily basis.  She's been to restaurants, the mall, church...you name it.  I finally got up the courage to take both out for some errands the other day, and while it was an exhausting experience, at least I now know it's doable by myself.  Although we have strangers flocking over to ogle the adorable twins (OMG!), I'm pleased that everyone seems to know to keep their hands to themselves.

  • @MrsP419 around 4 weeks my girls switched from pooping almost every feeding to once every several days.  Although it concerned me because they strain a lot from gas, my pediatrician says that it's perfectly normal around that time frame, particularly for babies eating breast milk, since they're just using the vast majority of the nutrients they take in and therefore don't have as much waste.  As long as their poop isn't hard, they're really not constipated.  He did say if they seemed to be struggling too much/going too long between poops, a little Vaseline inserted with a q-tip would help move things along.  There are also glycerine suppositories that I've heard other's doctors recommend.
  • @chrissy1013 share your knowledge girl! How do you simultaneously feed them?

@jaybee11‌ yeah one is definitely more fussy than the other. I feel bad for the chill baby, since I'm always taking care of the fussy baby first! Thanks dor letting me know about the sleep! We've been letting them sleep as long as they want at night but trying to wake them up more during the day. I can't wait to get decent sleep again lol

  • @katekat8721‌ - While sitting on the couch, I have one of our boys on a boppy newborn lounger on my left side. Then I place a small throw pillow on my knees and have our other boy laying there as he faces me (he doesn't like the boppy even though we have two). Then I pop a bottle into each mouth and we are good to go!
