Cervical length/short cervix

Hey!!

I wanted to give the ladies like myself a chance to talk about the cervix.
My first was born at 35 weeks and I had a short cervix with her due to a LEEP procedure on my cervix.
I had my U/S yesterday and my cervix is 2.7cm @ 20wks. It was 2.5cm @ 20wks with my first .. I'm already doing pergesterone shots every week. They said we will just wait till 24wks and get another CL and if we need to take intervention from there that we would. As for now, I'm not on any restrictions I work full time as an LPN at a doctors office.

Any other short cervix ladies out there want to share their story??

Re: Cervical length/short cervix

  • This does seem to be a recurring topic here. Some have said that a CL isn't always an option by the time it's needed (I forget why-too risky to the baby?). I don't know how short is too short. All of the moms I've known with this problem gave birth at 19-20w (and obviously their babies didn't survive). They were all on bed rest prior, except for one. I would probably inquire about getting another CL sooner than later. Otherwise, that's all I know. Seems a few others are dealing with shortening cervix's as well.

  • Hi! I'm currently on bed rest because of this.. Also following LEEP 3 years ago. Last week at 20w4d I ended up in L & D after a random (well not so random cuz they've been checking my cervix every 2 weeks) visit showed my cervix at 1.2. Since then the doc put me on progestrone suppositories and modified bed rest and of course took me off work. I had another check two days ago and cervix was around a 3.4. So much better. Thy suspect I have a dynamic cervix that just randomly changes length.. Which is fine... But mine doesn't know it's safe limits apparently. I now will get checked weekly till 24 weeks and the second it's short again I'm getting a cerclage (my doc said cut off is 24 weeks) so I'm nervous but glad the cervix is responding the the suppositories. Hope there's no more scares for either of us!

At my anatomy scan (18w6d) my cervix measured 2.8 cm. I was referred to MFM. He told me they get concerned when it reaches 2.5. They are sending me back in 2 weeks for another ultrasound to check the length. I will be 22w5d. They said if I am at 2.5 or less they will start me on progesterone. I had a LEEP in the past. They told me this could be my "normal". They are still going to keep an eye on it. I went in for my 20 wk appt yesterday at my regular ob and he was not overly concerned. So I am following his lead. Hopefully everything will look great on July 11th!
  • Prayers for all of us!!! <3 I'm trying to keep my head up and positive thoughts because I have been through this and know what to expect but I was really hoping for full term baby this time!!!!
  • My cervix measurement was 2.7 cm, but my doctor said this was within normal range and wasn't worried.

  • 2.7 can be normal if there are no other issues, I have a history of a short cervix with my first, delivering at 35weeks, therefor they are watching my cervix closer this time around.
