Likelihood of conceiving while using protection

Hi ladies!

I'm new to this website so I apologize for not having the acronyms correct!

I wanted to know if anyone here has conceived while using condoms..

I stopped BC two months ago (for personal reasons) and have been tracking my cycles to get more intune with my body.

While my DH and I aren't TTC we know there's a small possibility of still conceiving even with protection even though it's slim and we're ok with that! I'm merely trying to find out if anyone has had that happen to them :0)

Re: Likelihood of conceiving while using protection

  • It hasn't happened to me personally, and while I know it's possible I think it's unlikely. It depends on how carefully you use condoms, the pregnancy rate with PERFECT use is very low whereas it is a bit higher with TYPICAL use. If you are using condoms every time you have sex, they are unexpired and in good condition (ie no tears or punctures), the condom doesn't slip off, etc. - I think your chance of getting pregnant is quite slim.

  • I got pregnant with DS on birth control.  I was on the mini pill (still breastfeeding DD) which is only 90% effective when taken perfectly.  I was being quite lazy with it.  I think it's all about being used properly.

And this is why I choose not to take the mini pill.

When I went to my 6w PP visit with DS and my OB suggested the mini pill I was like NOOOOOOO!!!!
  • I DD got through a condom and the morning after pill.

    Yeah, it's possible.

  • ^^ Super sperm!! :))

Lol seriously! That baby was meant to be! We had also decided to stop having sex for moral reasons (we weren't married) and that was our last time. Go figure.

So not fair for those having trouble TTC!

Progestin-only pills are 99.7% effective if taken perfectly (i.e. within a 3-hr window each day). They are 91% effective for typical use.
