Please rec your at home hair color

I started going grey in my 20s.  Now that I am 40 I have to get my roots done every 7 weeks.  They are coming in white and there is definitely tons more white than brown.  Is there any good at home coloring products I can buy.  I am tired of spending the money.  My hair is about shoulder length, dark brown, and somewhat coarse.  TIA

  • I have always used Revlon's color silk.

It's easy to apply and usually less than 5.00 a box.

This, from Sally's. The associates should be able to help you because you have to by the color and developer separate but you get muuuuuch better results than the pre boxed kind. Ion also has grey resistant tones I think, if not most brands have lines for greying or hard to color hair.

  • I've been happy with Clairol Nice 'n Easy Foam, just for the ease of use. You apply it like you're shampooing your hair so it's pretty hard to screw up. I usually go for dark golden brown or just plain old dark brown. It's pretty dark the first few days but after a couple washes, it lightens up.

I'm currently using Clairol Natural Instincts ammonia free dye since I'm pregnant, and I don't care for it. I dyed my hair a little over a month ago and it's completely faded. I hate dyeing so needing to do it once a month is really annoying.

  • I use Garnier Fructisse usually. I have naturally dark brown hair with loads of gray (I'm 33 but my hair thinks I'm way older) so I usually go medium or dark brown.  Garnier has a new line of blonde hair dye for brunettes which I have been using this summer, though, and so far it is awesome.  I'll go back to brown in the fall but it's nice to be a blonde for awhile.
