BH contractions? or non labor contractions?

Hi ladies,

Are BH contractions basically the same as labor contractions with the only difference being that they are sporadic and do not hurt and aren't consistent?

Last week at close to 37 weeks my OB ordered a CTG and she picked up 1 mild contraction in a half an hour, is that basically a BH contraction? I'm 0 dilated and baby's head descended but still got more to go down.

2 days short of 38 weeks my OB ordered another CTG, that's how they do it in all private hospitals in Doha where I live not sure if they ask for weekly CTGs elsewhere in your last month, I sat for 35-40 minutes and got 4 contractions, again is that BH? the first 3 were mild but the last one was strong enough for me to turn and want to see it on the CTG cause it felt like someone was pulling a tight big belt around my belly back to my back and then around over my hips and it lasted for a minute.

I went home and did hips opening exercises and tail bone tilts on the ball and drank cinnamon tea, I had very mild sparse short contractions every now and then but nothing.

Does this mean I'm really close to having my baby? or could I still go over my due date in 2 weeks?

Re: BH contractions? or non labor contractions?

  • I had contractions last pregnancy that started a few days before my due date and lasted for a week. Some were painful and others just annoying. The difference between those and real contractions was obvious once I felt them. The real ones hurt and were difficult to breath through.

No one can really answer your question. You could have your baby tonight or on your due date in 2 weeks or even a week later. Your experience of contractions vs. anyone else's aren't indicative of what will happen. All we can do is wait. Patience is a bitch.

  • Nope, BH and real contractions are vastly different.
  • I had SO many BH contractions with all three pregnancies. When I was pg with DS#1 I kept thinking it was "labor" and then when I actually went into labor it was WAY different. They hurt like hell. My first "real" contraction dropped me to my knees. With DS#2 he was a repeat csec and same with this baby. I'm having about 9-10 BH an hour for the past 4 days and no labor so I'm set to go in on Monday if he doesn't come over the weekend.

  • To me braxton hicks and real contractions felt nothing alike. You will know it when it's the real thing. In the mean time try not to stress and get as much rest as you can. Real labor will be here before you know it.

  • I had constructions for weeks before I had DS. They would even become very regular at night, but then trail off once I got in bed. You probably have awhile...
