EMOTIONAL!!

OK guise, can I please vent????

So, I just got back from a class at my OB/GYN's office. It was sort of a "what to expect" class. It was informative. However, there were two things that made me upset.

1) My first ultrasound won't be until 12 weeks. I'm upset because I want to be sure things are progressing as they should be. I'm so anxious to see the little nugget and hear his/her heartbeat. I expressed this worry to the girl and she pretty much said to keep taking pregnancy tests to be accurate. Hm, that's not reassuring enough for me.

2) My doctor is leaving the practice. The girl didn't say if she was going somewhere else or when she was leaving but made it seem like it will be soon because she said they only have one doctor now who will be delivering. I'm so upset. I love my doctor. Ever since I first met with her I was like "Yes, this is the woman who will deliver my children one day". I'm just so upset. I was just sobbing crying to my mom about it (HORMONES!!)

I don't know what to do besides wait. Maybe I'll like the other doctor? I'm just really sad, and emotional, and irritated.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Re: EMOTIONAL!!

  • :( I've also been stressed out over ultrasounds. I had one at 6 weeks only bc I fainted, otherwise I'm not sure if I would have had one until 12! It makes me nervous because I feel like a lot can happen before 12 weeks and some reassurance would be nice! So don't worry you are not alone there!

And that really sucks about your doctor! I hope you like your new one just as much! It's definitely understandable to be upset about both subjects. Vent away, it will make you feel better!

  • Argg I'm sorry Snooks! Vent away, it's ok to be upset. My first appointment isn't until almost 9 weeks and I have no idea if they'll do an u/s then or not....it's a long time to wait. If you have any concerns (spotting or cramping) you just take yourself in there for reassurance. As for the doc, I think you have to wait it out....but maybe you can find out where she's going? Hugs lady!

  • It's pretty standard to not have one until 12 weeks and that is usually dictated by insurance. If you are really bothered by the doctor leaving it's still early enough to OB shop for someone else. I'm sorry this upset you! My insurance only covers two ultrasounds the entire time.

Vent hon vent... I know it's frustrating, but hang in there. Good thing is it's still early enough to possibly find another doctor you like.

  • It's definitely tough waiting it out...I don't get a first ultrasound until 20 weeks!!!
  • I just found out that my OB left the practice at the end of last month. Her two partners are okay, and one even delivered ds since she was out of the country when ds made his early arrival, but I much prefer her. There is a new replacement partner that I'm interested in meeting, but I understand your disappointment because I had the same shock. I hope you are happy with your OB's partner or can find a good replacement soon.

  • That sucks, FX it all works out and you like the new doc. You have every right to be emotional. I was just unloading the dishwasher, and one of my favorite glasses was broken, and I seriously cried! Mine is completely trivial, so you are more than justified in your emotions!

    This here for me, too.

Try the new doc out, and if you don't like him/her, shop around.

Sorry things are crappy for you right now.

  • Thanks ladies. I'm glad I have this place to vent even if I feel like I sound ridiculous. But thanks for making me feel better.

  • My CNM practice only does 1 ultrasound at 20wks. However, I will get to hear the heartbeat at my appt at 9 wks. Are you sure you won't hear the heartbeat sooner and just not have an u/s until 12 wks?

  • yikes, its definitely understandable that this would be upsetting.  12 weeks is a long time to wait. My ultrasound/first dr apt is at 7 wks. I have my orientation class today, which I'm super excited about.   I agree with the pp though, at least it is early so you can look for a new OB, although I'm sure you would rather not. :-( Good luck and I hope you will like the other doctor at your current office.

  • I totally understand! With my first pregnancy our insurance switched around 16 weeks of pregnancy, and I had been going to that OB for years prior for my well woman exams. I loved the hospital, I had my gallbladder out at 14 weeks pregnant, they knew my history and everything.

I had to find a new OB at 20 weeks pregnant, and they almost didn't want to take me then and only did because of the insurance switch. I called my PCP and asked who she recommended (since she had just had her 2nd baby). She recommended an OB group that was much closer to my work, and I ended up LOVING my doctor. I was a nervous, sobbing wreck when I found out I had to switch... but sometimes it works out in the end.

I hope you end up liking the new doctor or you find someone that you do like!
  • In canada its pretty standard to wait until 16/20 weeks for a US. Unless there is a reason they need to date or your size or something. So thats a much longer wait for me!

  • Ahh. That sounds frustrating. I would try out the new doc, see what's it's like. But you can ask why your doctor is leaving the practice. I know plenty of people who have followed their doctors. You want to make sure YOU are comfortable and taken care of. If insurance is an issue, you can also ask if they offer OOP ultrasounds with doctor. I made sure to ask my OB when he planned on taking vacation and if he plans to retire soon (he's older) but he said they will Def. Let me know. They key here is that you are happy and feel like you're being taken care of. I hope everything works out for you!
